What Clients Really Look For in a Real Estate Agent

Services for Real Estate Pros with RealSupport Inc.

Real estate professionals are naturally concerned about making a good impression. Much has been written about networking and being memorable. But what qualities are people really looking for when they meet someone? Especially someone they might do business with?

Business Insider recently reported that people make character judgements based on two main factors: trust and respect.

Amy Cuddy is the author of “Presence” and a Harvard professor of psychology. She says that creating impressions of trust and respect boil down to how well you convey warmth and competence. However, warmth, or trust, may be the most important!

Cuddy says that the importance of feeling warmth and trust for another person goes back to our primal instincts for survival. By nature, we’re seeking people we can trust, before we look for competence.

Think about how that translates to real estate for a moment. Often, agents list their accolades and sales awards online – proof of competence and respect – but they don’t worry too much about showing warmth.

While skills, experience and education are important, it’s equally important to talk about helping families, solving problems, and being there through the closing.

Think about all the emotional aspects. Will you arrive early to a last-minute showing and help your seller straighten the place up? Will you protect your client when the deal starts going sideways? Will you be there to say goodbye, when the moving truck comes?

This is why personal testimonials and online reviews are so powerful. Potential clients want to know how you treat people.

Real estate agents do not simply manage transactions; they manage life changes. Agents who show that they care, in addition to displaying competency, will win the hearts and business of new clients.

At RealSupport, we’ve been caring about our clients and their success since 2001! Let us help you with your online reputation, listing marketing, content management and more! Contact us today for your free consultation and needs assessment.
