Wordless Wednesday! HATCHED

By
Real Estate Agent with Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty

With Valetines Day coming.....I wish I had Love Doves, but these Mourning Doves are just as sweet!

A short time ago I captured these doves on my balcony and watched them grow.

The mom was so protective but calm allowing me to get close by.

Only once did I see the dad, he was busy getting food.

In one of the last shots, you see how big they got, and still the mom cuddles with them.

They took flight, and haven't been back. I wouldn't mind if they return, they were so peaceful, not like some other birds!

Ellen I'm guessing they'll be back! We have a family of doves that comes back year after year to the same nest they built. It's really fun watching them grow up!

Anna, yes so sweet! We had these other birds that made a nest right on the brick near our front door and what a mess they were! Plus they attacked us everytime we went in and out.

Hi Ellen - Nice photos. We have lots of mourning doves around our home, but they nest up high where they're out of sight and protected so we rarely see the baby ones. How nice to have them on the deck and unafraid.

Ellen,  They seem so exposed there on the balcony.  I am surprised some other critters did not get them.  How fun to be up so close and watch them.

This balcony is on the second floor off my master bedroom. We have had problems with a hawk that attacked my daughters rabbit. I'm glad he didn't get the doves.

In my last house we had doves nesting and they were huge. The grandkids would watch and the doves hardly moved. Great photos, Ellen.

There may be a nest..... Perhaps they are hiding it. If these weren't right on my balcony I never would have seen them

Debbie, if I don't have the time to sit outside and enjoy them, at least I can watch them from the window when I wash dishes.

Oh, Ellen, how totally delightful that you got a visual history of their growth, I just LOVE this!!!

I'm going to check out the group "Feathernesters", and there is a group called Birds, too.

I haven't had the pleasure of having bird babies grow before my eyes, but have gotten a few photos of barn swallow "peeps" in our own barn last year, and one that I took awhile ago of Mom feeding some barnswallow babies.

We had barn swallow babies on out front porch, they made a nest attached to the brick. They were so messy and territorial, they circled us as we went in and out. I got a video of them going wild.

What sweet photos! Thank you for sharing. I had a family of snakes living under my back stair for a season. It was a mom and three babies. We used the front door exlusively to give them their privacy.

Snakes! I'd use the front door out of fear, not privacy! LOL
