Edward Paul

Thanks for stopping by and taking time out of your day to read my post.  My intent is to put a smile on your face.  Hopefully you’ll go away with some information you may have forgotten about or did not know.  Now sit back and enjoy.

Edward was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania back in 1927 to Paul and Mildred.  After graduating high school, just 8 months before his 18th birthday back in 1945, before he was drafted he decided to make a trip.  He explored the American southwest.  His mode of travel, by foot, bus, hitchhiking and freight train hopping.  During WWII he served two years as a military police officer in Italy.  He was promoted twice and demoted twice because of his knack for opposing authority.  After returning to the states he took advantage of the G.I. Bill and attended the University of New Mexico and received a B.A. in philosophy in 1951.

You may know him better as Edward Abbey.  He worked as a seasonal ranger for the United States National Park Service.  He died in 1989 due to complications of an earlier surgery.  In a hand written note, he had written simply “no comment”.  Some of his writings include, Jonathan troy, Fire on the Mountain, Black Sun and The Monkey Wrench Gang.  On his headstone is the following:

Edward

Paul

Abbey

1927-1989

Good morning James,

I had no recollection of this man either! He must have been an inspiration for Roger D. Mucci with his "I got Nothin"

Make yourself an astonishing day.

Gotta love that tombstone.  After a great meal, I often say, "I'm never gonna eat again!"  I want that statement put on my tombstone!
