Remember that old saying that ‘laughter is the best medicine’? Well, according to researchers it’s true. Although we certainly need medicine, just 1 minute of hearty laughter can reduce heart rate, increase blood flow, positively affect blood sugar levels, boost immune function, help us relax, sleep better and improve our overall sense of wellbeing! Wow!
We see and hear every day about natural disasters, terrorism, crime, abuse and other horrible things. This can rob us from appreciating the good things and people in our lives. With all the fear and turmoil in our world today, it’s no wonder that we don’t feel as happy and content as we should. And if left ‘unchecked’, research shows that it can cause stress and medical problems.
How about if we all ‘prescribed’ laughter, like doctors prescribe medicine? We wouldn’t even have to stop at the drug store to pick it up and it’s FREE! Good feelings are in all of us and a friendly smile, a kind word, and of course, a good laugh bring it out.
Since you’re already reading this article, why don’t you take a moment to think of the people who make you laugh and smile. Don’t you look forward to being around them? How about the ‘life of the party’ or the great joke and story teller? We know that no one is exempt from life’s problems, but to spread and share laughter every day sounds like very good medicine to me.
Now, who has a good joke?
