The Carlsbad Village Lifestyle – Transportation Options
As with shopping, dining, services and things to do, the Carlsbad Village lifestyle includes a number of transportation options.
ON FOOT
For many on foot is the way to get around unless health or physical issues prevent doing so. The Carlsbad Boardwalk along the beach for over a mile, really a concrete walk way, and the many sidewalks, with some recent improvements, in the Village provide a safe and easy way to get around on foot. It’s cheap, good exercise, and you don’t have to worry about looking for parking
BY BIKE
Bicycling, as a sport, for exercise, or simply for getting around is a popular means of transportation in Southern California, and in Carlsbad Village this is no exception. There are well marked bike paths, roadways market with Sharrows which means they are to be shared equally between motorists and cyclists, and abundant bike racks recently added by the City of Carlsbad to provide plenty of places to stash your bike while you take off on foot, dine as a restaurant, or go shopping. You can read more about the Carlsbad Walk + Bike Program implemented in 2015.
ON SKATEBOARD
Certainly not the way to get around for most people, but skateboarding is very popular around the Village and elsewhere. You see skateboarders on the side walks, bike paths and on the streets themselves, not mention the skate board park near the Safety Training Center.
BY CAR
California is known for its abundance of cars, probably the preferred way to get around, and Carlsbad is no exception. There is ample parking in the Village, on the streets and in a number of parking lots, although it can get more crowded when we have the arts and crafts fairs and during the peak summer months. The cool thing is that parking in Carlsbad Village is FREE!
BY BUS
The North County Transit District (NCTD) operates a regular schedule of busses around the Village and up and down the coast. Know as The Breeze, busses are used widely and are reasonably priced.
BY COMMUTER TRAIN
NCTD also operates the commuter rail known as The Coaster that provides an easy way to commute from Oceanside all the way to San Diego. A major stop for The Coaster is in the heart of Carlsbad Village. Another Carlsbad train station is located further south near Poinsettia Lane
BY AMTRAK
In the last couple of years Amtrak has added stops on their popular Surfliner train running between San Diego and Los Angeles that include Carlsbad Village. Be aware that not all Amtrak train stop in the Village, but it saves Carlsbadians the trouble of going north to Oceanside or south to Solana Beach to get the train.
BY TAXI AND RIDESHARE SERVICES UBER AND LYFT
There are a number of taxi and rideshare service options like Uber and Lyft in the greater San Diego area which includes Carlsbad Village
FOR SENIORS
The City of Carlsbad provides transportation for seniors to the senior center 5 days a week for lunch as well as for other purposes, e.g., medical appointments.
As you can see there are plenty of transportation options in the area so that everyone can take advantage of the Carlsbad Village lifestyle.
