99% of Everything Has Gone Up in Price. SO WHAT?

By
Real Estate Agent with HomeSmart

Seriously, really, what is accomplished by complaining about the cost of anything going up? So when you think about it, complaining accomplishes a couple of things:

1 It lets others know you are a whiner

What it does not accomplish:

1 It does not change what you are upset about, disappointed or complaining about.

2 You may just depress the person you are telling.

3 Depending on your reason for whining people may determine who you voted for.

4 You won't make anyone happier after they have ended the conversation with you.

5 I could list more except I am getting depressed.

Complaining without purpose is a waste of time.

People are frustrated that their dream of home ownership is shattered. Often they blame it on the realtor. As a middleman you get the squeeze.

Do not take it personally. That is the way it goes.

Not sure about point 3.  I find myself complaining about all those voted, regardless of whether they were my choice or not.

Complaining is human nature - particularly when we can't do anything to change the situation.  Sometimes I agree with the complainer, other times I wonder what kind of life they live if that's what they're worried about!

Dear Dan,

That is not entirely true. Our grandparents used to pay much more of their income for food & clothing, than we do today. Also, wages have gone up substantially, so thinking proportionally may be a better comparison. Plus, think of our waste stream. It has grown immensely, which means we are living pretty high on the hog.

No complaining from me....recently I spent 6 weeks on crutches after having foot surgery, I took a listing, took photos, took out sellers, cooked a few meals.....and the first thing I did when I was walking was sweep the floor my kids and husband wouldnt do for 6 weeks. LOL Life is worth laughing about!

When people complain to me, I usually say something like, "So what are you going to do about that?" Unfortunately for the conversation, that usually doesn't make them feel warm and comfy but my tolerance for complaining instead of taking action is very low.

Dan, this is a great reminder of why not to complain.

I try to focus on things I can change and work on them as I let all the rest go.

Thanks

Good point - if you can't change it then LET IT GO and focus on those things you can change. That would definitely be more productive.

There's a difference between venting and complaining. I can come home from a long day and vent my frustrations to my husband but that doesn't mean I'm necessarily complaining. I do know a few chronic complainers however. It's frustrating to be around that type of person.

Ha ha, I love Rob's comment about a little cheese with the whine. Reminds me of when I was in the Army. Our platoon sergent decided we should have a morning meeting everyday after morning formation. Since our shop was the biggest it was held there. Everyone was either complaining about something (whining) or kissing up (I called it eating cheese).

Every morning after formation I'd say to my guys "Time to go to the whine and cheese party."

I think it is important to understand why prices are going up.  Low interest rates and over spending by the government is pumping cash into the economy faster than the value of goods and services.  Inflation is a tax.  I also believe that as consumer credit begins to expand more we will get even worse inflation (Fractional Banking Plays a big part in this).  These are all excellent reasons to buy a home now while interest rates are very low.
