The Juanita Neighborhood of Kirkland WA is a large established community that was annexed into the city limits in July of 1967. Once rural farmland and homesteads, the area began to change in the 1960's as modern subdivisions began to be developed. Nearby, the Heronfield Wetland offers an educational self-guided interpretive walk offering information on the wetlands and urban wildlife habitat, as well as an off leash dog park.
The new Village at Totem Lake is now underway and will be a huge redevelopment for an aging and obsolete mall. This shopping plaza will be anchored by a movie theater and a Whole Foods Market. It will bring dozens of new retail and dining establishments to the area as well as hundreds of new condominiums, apartments and office space.
