What an interesting article, my husband and I have water softners in our homes we've owned over the years. Although with this house, we opt not to put one in and we put in a LifeSource system.
Now Arizona is known for there hard water and water softners do help. Water softners help by removing "hard" calcium and magnesium from the water there for making the water "soft" water that cleans better and does not leave scaly deposits.
A leading Valley developer here in Arizona is going green in several of his communities. The Phoenix based Company has banned these conventional water-softening systems that produce high levels of salt. The result is cleaner water in environmentally sensitive parts of the valley. All Ellman Cos is doing is asking the home buyer to to a newer water-softening technology that would be better for the environment.
This effort mirrors a law in California, where some cities have banned or restricted certain types of water softners.
Last year, my old neighbor had to redo all the plumbing throughout there house. The plumber had to blow out some of the pipes due to salt build up in the plumbing. As my neighbor said if he only knew then what he knew now, who knows what the future would have brought. He hated paying that bill.
This week we purchased an easy water system for our house. Along with our LifeSource and the easy water system we hope this will bring down the hardness in the water.
