I'm not a "greenpeace" radical. I'm not into peace, love and granola. Every year I go on my family vacation in the Rocky Mountains, I am a hippie for a day or two in Boulder Colorado. I'm just a Conservative dude minding his own business. Greenpeace and those groups belong on a ship with all of the PETA people and sent to the Arctic Ocean for good.
However, I am impressed with this Freecycle. Go to www.freecycle.org. What's the unique qualities of this? Your trash is someone else's treasure. Literally! We're not filling up landfills with garbage and someone within your zip code comes to your front stoop to pick up the piece of crap that you don't want any more. They take it home and turn it into their treasure.
Freecycle is FREE, obviously, but you can only join a group within your geographical area in which you can pick up or drop off items within a reasonable distance. Privacy is insured and guidelines are given to ensure privacy. But I've seen people pick up, 1/2 bottle of rug cleaner, used underwear (believe it or not), broken refrigerators, DVD players. I even saw a woman who broke her diet by buying a box of oreo cookies. AFter she ate 4 of them she felt guilty, put it on Freecycle and someone came to her stoop and picked up the remaining cookies that evening.
I know that this is extreme, but it's also pretty cool. If you think about all the stuff that you're not sure that Waste Management will take...you can put a lot of these items to use helping other people.
