Acts of Kindness don’t have to be random! Sometimes we overlook opportunities right under our noses.
Today we had the walk-through at Daniel and Laura Martin’s new home. It has been under construction for the past five months, but now it’s finished and in a few days they will close.
To my surprise, there was a cardboard box in the foyer, full of gift bags. “What are these?” I asked.
“Those are a thank-you to the guys who worked on our house,” said Laura. She had baked home-made cookies, and put the cookies in individual bags, each with a little “Thank you” tag. The superintendant was taking the box to a house down the street, where the subs were working today. There was a cookie for him too, along with a gift card to a popular restaurant.
Isn’t that a lovely gesture? What a thrill for those workers -- roofers and painters and drywall hangers — to know that someone looked at their work and thought of them, and appreciated their contribution.
Acts of Kindness don’t håve to be random. Sometimes there are opportunities very close to home indeed, if you have eyes to see — like Laura Martin.
