smoke detector in north kingstown

The North Kingstown Fire department is offering to install smoke alarms free of charge to all North Kingstown homeowners (not renters).  To qualify for free smoke alarms you must meet these conditions:

1) No working smoke alarm and are not financially able to purchase a smoke alarm.

However, if you have at least one child living with you under 18 or you are 60 years of age or older, you will qualify.

Only battery operated smoke alarms will be done and thank you's go out to Home Depot for supplying the smoke detectors along with KIDDE smoke alarms.

Please go to the Town of North Kingstown web site and download the program request form or call 401-294-3346 extension 7201 (fire department's smoke alarm area).

I encourage all to ensure that they have current smoke alarms that work in their homes (less than 10 years old).  As a local real estate agent I see far to many smoke alarms disconnected in homes jeopardizing the lives of all residents.  Please take advantage of this free smoke alarm program today!

So true Joe, this is the second year they are doing it and I'm reaching out to elderly especially.  We have had a few deaths in RI recently from fire where the elderly residents did not make it out sadly...and wonder if they had working smoke alarms.
