Marketing is one of those things that real estate agents seem to live or die by. Do you have a marketing plan for 2016? Do you have a marketing budget for 2016? Do you know what it is you are selling? What you are charging? Where you are going to your clients? Do you really have a strategy for marketing your real estate business in 2016?

(Definition) Marketing – the action or business of promoting and selling products, services including market research and advertising.

We all know the classic 4 P’s, the foundation to a strategy in Marketing:

Product – our product in real estate is “you.”
Price – determine what you are going to charge.
Placement – the channels you will use to reach clients
Promotion – the strategy you will implement

Once we have defined what marketing is and determined what our 4P’s for our marketing strategy are in 2016 we need to determine what our marketing budget will be for 2016. Your marketing budget cannot be something that you blow through in 2 months or even 2 weeks. Your marketing budget needs to be something for 6 months or even a 12 month period. I would recommend that you invest 20% of your gross commission income into your marketing budget for 2016. Having the set budget helps you stay away from the impulse spending and helps you know exactly how much you have to spend and where you want to spend it.

Take the time to sit down and really determine your strategy and a budget and commit to a marketing strategy for the duration of 2016. Jumping in and out of marketing or just spending your budget on a one shot single marketing campaign does not usually work. Make sure you are always testing, measuring and tweaking your marketing campaigns throughout the year. The consistency, repetition and targeted marketing strategy always wins the marketing race. Let’s look at some of the marketing strategies one could implement in 2016.

The marketing possibilities are endless and please don’t just spend for the sake of spending or market without a plan or know that others have had success with similar marketing strategies. Taking the time to create a budget, plan and strategy is so important to have success in any business or service.
