#30DaySoldSignChallenge - YAY OR NAY

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with CMG Financial and Expansion Marketing Services FA100050874

The #30DaySoldSignChallenge is sweeping the industry and going VIRAL!
And this raises the question … YAY OR NAY?

Here’s how it works, for the next 30 days (starting from when you accept the challenge) you carry around a “SOLD” Rider EVERYWHERE you go!
And I do mean EVERYWHERE (well, maybe not the bathroom, but heck, who knows).

Anyway, the magic of this challenge is that folks from all over (aka EVERYWHERE) will be intrigued by the sign and possibly strike up a conversation.
What is that sold sign? Why do you have it? Oh, you are a Realtor? How is the market?
I have a house to sell! My kids are saving to buy their first home! And so on …

 #30daysoldsignchallenge

The results from the #30DaySoldSignChallenge are overwhelming so far with
tons and tons of stories being shared about generated business.

We believe that thinking outside of the box and going into something with a
positive attitude
and expectations for success, is a GREAT IDEA!

There are, however, plenty of nay-sayers … even one gentleman who shared our post about this challenge on Social Media stating that any Realtor who does this has no self-respect and is the reason why Realtors are ranked just above used car salesman for the least trusted professions.

What’s your take? And what’s that sign sticking out of your bag?

I like this idea very much.  I don't go too many places, but it will be fun to have that along with me.

Hi, Erin.   In the spirit of Weltanschauung, I am going to respectfully disagree.

Walking around with a 24 x 6 sign rider that says "Sold" is Tacky.

You might as well hold up a sign that says, "Will Sell Real Estate for Food".

Kathleen Daniels' and  Corinne Guest, Managing Broker's  comments may sound harsh, but "Desperation" is a good word to describe it.

FWIW,    I went over to LCA on Facebook but can't find the original post.  Just some remarks from people who are trying this.

Fred Griffin - circus clowns come to my mind. I would not ever want my name and reputation associated with that kind of behavior.

Hi Fred Griffin  - I absolutely respect your opinion and think that you did a great job of sharing it in a way that is kind and respectful. It allows me to really consider what you are saying rather than feeling hurt or slighted by the way you said it. I know that this forum is not personal, but, it really makes me feel good that you decided to be kind anyway!

Man oh man Kathleen Daniels  - darn. I was really excited to respond to your above comments with kindness - choosing to try to stay in a heart-based place rather than a name-calling place, but, it seems like your comments are just going further and further and honestly going too far. To associate me (I guess) or anyone else that is going to try something out of the box with Circus Clowns? That saddens me and does not show respect. :(

I found the idea interesting not sure I would do it, but perhaps a play on it might work.... I'll think about it!

Erin, in real estate or any business, trying different marketing techniques is a good thing but not every type of marketing is for everyone. I for one don't wear a name tag, never have and never will but I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing one if one wants to. I feel the same about carrying a SOLD sign, it's not for me, it's different and definitely a conversation starter. If I felt good about it and matched my personality, I would definitely go for it.

I won't do it. I'm too danged lazy to do it, for starters. For another, it won't fit in my bag. And it clashes with my shoes, for crying out loud. Maybe brand new agents could find business but I prefer mine by referral and anonymous internet jerks.

I carried the SOLD sign to a listing appointment and sellers asked why and I said, "I'm visualizing that I will be putting this sign up pretty quickly." I got the listing.

YESSSSS!!! This is EXACTLY the kind of idea that makes me smile. Using this sold sign to create positive energy, open up conversation abour our industry, and manifest success is AWESOME.

Well Gosh - we have lots of comments to read here! How fun. Overall it seems like some think this is a fun idea and are doing it (this is the minority), some think it is fun but not for them (majority), and a few are apparently outraged that a Realtor would be so "desperate" for business that they would stoop to this level.

I am excited about the fact that carrying around a sold sign can help a Realtor and Consumer connect - whether it creates business or not. Realtors are generally perceived as not trustworthy (according to many surveys) and I believe that if more consumers interacted with them (Us) they would see that we too are people and most of us are not the slime-balls you hear about. If a simple sold sign in my back pocket can help change the collective consciousness about Realtors then I am all in.

I also love the idea of talking about SOLD homes as if they have already sold - does anyone know what this is called? LAW OF ATTRACTION! You attract with you emit - I AM emitting SOLD homes.

Hello Erin, I just wanted to drop by and say thank you for the challenge, some will like it and some want just like politics but in the end who cares. As long as one can find what works for them and not be negative about what doesn't work for them. As real estate professionals we're always looking for a magic formula to solicit clients whether it be market reports, cma's etc.

Have a terrific Sunday and God bless us all.

Those who have taken the challenge on the Facebook Lab Coats Agent site have had good success with it. While it isn't something I would do, I am always open to hear new ideas and if it gets people talking about real estate and asking questions, why not? I also tend to believe that most will view it with a sense of humor and not as a negative, as some have characterized it.

I think it depends on your market and your personality.    Honestly to each their own, if it works for you it doesn't matter what anyone else things of the idea.

Hi Erin, I learned about this challenge on Facebook and I'm thinking I'd like to give it a try. I need to have a plan though, because I generally work at home and behind the scenes supporting Rich, so I need to find a reason to get out and be visible to generate the conversations. I believe it's worth a try!! I've heard of lots of folks having success. It's definitely out of the box thinking!!!

I have not heard of this idea.  I couldn't do it.  Can you imagine someone taking this everywhere, even to church?  I think most would look at the person with the sign and say, "why are they here?" , just to promote themselves, not for the same purpose as the other members of the church.

There is an old television commercial with the slogan  "You can try hard, or you can try soft. Soft will get them everytime."
