Every time you open a newspaper or look on line there is another report about how bad the economy is and how much worse it is going to get.  I'm not here to blow smoke at anyone, but I do want to remind you that you have a choice about how you react to such reports.

You can choose to believe reports about how bad the real estate market is; but how easy will it be for you to do your job effectively if you really let yourself believe that the market is down for the count?  You might still be able to do your job but it will feel like an uphill battle.

Or you can choose to take what the media reports with a grain of salt.  You can wake up every morning willing to see what the day has in store for you; instead of focusing on predictions you can focus on what is before you.
If you focus on what is, you will find doing your job to be easier, more satisfying.  It's entirely up to you.

6 Comments on The Media Says the Sky is Falling

You're absolutely right, Coco.  By letting the media determine our mindset, we continue to fight windmills.  I see this market as ripe with opportunities, and I reflect that with my clients.  Have a great weekend.

I couldn't agree with you more! Perception is everything - and just because you may to work a bit harder for a few deals, just means you are working - I like to look at this market as an exciting time to be successful in business and show that its all in your view of things - glass half full or half empty? Great post!! Have a wonderful day!

I cant agree with you more, Coco. I tune out the media when they start to go down the negativity track and focus on the positive. Thanks for sharing, Jim.

I find that there are buyers under every crack and nook. What media blitz? Really is a mind set isnt it!

This past week saw the release of Starbuck's financial earnings report, where they saw a drop in sales. They made it clear: it is the housing market's fault. I agree; it is the housing markets fault. I mean how could it be blamed on the fact that a $5 cup of coffee is seen as a luxury item, people have been loosing their jobs, salaries have not increased for most Americans, and bills like gas and food have gone up. Those things would not play a part in it at all; it has to be the housing market. ;)

Although I am not anti-media, I do believe it is better that we think for ourselves, rather than buy into a tag line for a story.
