...And on the First Day Light was Made. Time to Update Light? Go LED!

lightimagecourtesyofmorguefileAccording to Genesis chapter 1, Light was spoken into existence on the First Day. Light has been around forever, even inside our homes, as long as we keep the light bulbs changed and the electricity bill paid.

BUT now you can buy very attractive light fixtures with LED bulbs already installed in the fixture that are supposed to last for just about forever without having to change the bulb for 40 years or so, AND paying the electricity bill to keep the light on, is MUCH LESS!

Don and I went shopping recently to purchase some new light fixtures for a rent house that is being renovated. I have not shopped for light fixtures since almost the beginning of time... :) and was blown away by what is available now!

We found ourselves at Home Depot at Paris, Texas looking up at the display lights on the wall looking for the most attractive lights that gave good bright light and Surprise! For less than 30 bucks, we found a very attractive bathroom ceiling light that was perfect! The bulb is supposed to be good for 35 years on the one that we chose. Hmmm.. it wasn’t long before I picked out a 52“ Hampton Bay ceiling fan in bronze finish with LED light at less than $140.

Just like everyone else, we embraced curly q lights to save money several years ago and they do but I go through a lot of light bulbs!

Now we’re talking! LED Lights that are even dimmable. I have been happy with the light fixtures in my house but I find myself wanting to replace them all with LED lights! I love what the industry has brought to the table for light. I don’t know when it happened because I’ve been in the dark about this (pun intended).

So what else have I missed in recent products? I don’t know but it’s time to go shopping and find out what is available to make my and your life better and more affordable in our homes.

I'm making the switch to LED myself! As you stated, the selection and style for LED's is very good. The lifespan of the LED is long and cheaper to run than flourescent. The biggest thing for me was the sloooooowwwww time it takes a flourescent to warm up to full light display.

I've always hated flourescent lights, so LEDs are a great option... but the jury is still out as too how long those bulbs really last.

I never embraced those stupid curly lights.  hated them.  And the early LEDs which I did buy a few of were ick colored, but lately the newer ones are more like natural light and that I think I'm going to be happy to embrace and enjoy the savings.

It is nice to be able to light up a room while using about the same amount of energy as a small night light bulb.  I have had a few of the LED bulbs that flicker, but other than that, so far, so good.  They sure are getting much less expensive than they were even a year ago.

LED lights have come a long way in a short time. We have replaced a number of our fixtures with LEDs and are convinced that's the way to go.

I think the new LED lights are wonderful Judi K Barrett .   They even make outdoor flood lights in LED now.   They are equivalent to 120 watts and bright down here in the woods.   My husband installed a pair on each corner of the house and now all of them together draw less power than one of the old incandescent bulbs.   My husband loves them because of the longevity meaning he won't have to hang off that 30 foot ladder again to replace them.

Hi Judi K Barrett , It won't be long before we have all of our bubs LEDs.  I guess I am getting used to the new shapes of the new bulbs, especially in the yard light.  That will be the first one that goes LED around here.
