Name this Flower!

Showhomes's home office in Nashville is located in a really cool restored home near Vanderbilt University in Hillsboro Village. We really love our office and earlier this week I was happy to see a beautiful live arrangement on the foyer table when I walked in. Phyllis Spencer, our business manager brought them in. She lives on a lovely farm out in the country and has a knack for making arrangements.

Here is a photo of this arrangement:

We held an internal contest in our weekly newsletter to see if anyone could guess what these were and so far no one has guessed correctly.

Do you have any idea what these are? Hint - its not what you think!

The only thing I can think of is mustard...

Well, it looks like goldenrod to me, but you said it's not what I think, so......I have no idea!

Its not Goldenrod or mustard (although that's an excellent guess!)

Looks like Goldenrod or Disambiguation. Its a common weed growing along most road sides and pastures. Its also coined as part of the red neck rose collection! My Husband brings them to me on ocassion. He will pick them but he wont buy them (flowers).

Redneck roses? This is from Tennessee.... But alas, these are not Goldenrod. When I came in, I said 'what pretty weeds' and I was thinking the same thing - the flowers you see along side the road but these are not Goldenrod. Keep guessing!

You know, on further inspection, these flowers look much more soft and delicate than goldenrod, which you could probably run over with your car and not harm. But I googled "yellow wildflowers" and out of hundreds of photos, none of them looked like these! I'm stumped!

It's not the clearest picture, but I'm going to guess Gold Yarrow.

Okay, after a little bit of research, it could also be Golden Alexander or Sweet Fennel.

I think it is a weed, I have seen them and it is pretty, no matter weed or not. So what is it?

WOW I think my eyes are itching...and I'm goingto sneeze.  My allergies!!  That would be a great welcome for a Buyer. It does look a bit like Golden Rod, but I think maybe Yarrow?  They are very pretty.

Thanks to everyone for guessing! You guys obviously know more about flowers than I do!

Here is the surprising (to me) answer: I mentioned that Phyllis lives on a farm in the country outside of Nashville. In Middle Tennessee, when we say someone lives on a farm, we mean it :)

Phyllis's crop of TURNIP GREENS recently flowered and these are a very beautiful bouquet of TURNIP GREEN flowers! Who knew!

Adam Brett came the closest when he guessed Mustard. While I've never seen mustard plants, mustard greens have a similar flower.

Happy Home Staging!

I'd say it was a weed, my dad used to say it was Mustard when we'd pass fields of it :)
