Seven Ways To Make Your Home Standout On A Budget!

If you're like most homeowners, you've probably watched a few home improvement shows and have considered updating your home on and off.

The fear that the final bill might be way out of reach, may cause you to delay moving forward with updating your home.

But updating your home on a budget doesn't have to be expensive.

Here Are Seven Ways To Make Your Home Standout On A Budget:

1. Paint the interiors of your home in a soft and neutral color.

Why not try a cozy but classy gray paint?

Some of our favorite gray paint colors that we use are included below:

2. Now that you've painted the interior of the home, those one inch baseboards may start to appear old and battered. Why not change them to new two or three inches baseboards? The good news is, baseboards are usually inexpensive and with new paint the transformation can be astonishing.

3. You might realize that after painting and adding new baseboards, your ceilings may start to look old or lonely.

What should you do next, you may ask?

Change out your light fixtures to something modern. Here is a really neat inside designer trick. If you like a particular light fixture and the color isn't your taste, that's fine. Just ask the store associate or your home designer if the piece can be purchased as is and then spray painted in your desired color. Some popular light fixtures finishes to consider are: bronze, nickel, gold, copper etc.

4. Add custom made amenities: this sounds more pricey than it really is, believe me, it will be explained below.

Custom made amenities usually make a home more comfortable and convenient to live in. If you have a large kitchen but are lacking storage space, you can add an island. The good news is, with the new kitchen designs that are emerging, an island doesn't have to be custom made to match your existing kitchen cabinets. It's ok to add white cabinets to a kitchen that has brown ones. It could even make a nice contrast. This new island could solve storage, countertop space and extra seating concerns that you had.

Install dimmer switches in kitchen or dining room.

Add storage to your bathroom.

5. Opening Walls and Doorway: Opening up a kitchen wall to create an open concept layout is one of the best investment a homeowner can make. Another favorite is to open up a doorway and add double french doors. Word of caution, before opening up walls and doorway have a professional come in to provide advice, the investment is well spent. The last thing you would want to do is affect the structural integrity of your home, safety is always first.

6. Front and Back Porches: Why not furnish them? Just by furnishing front and back porches, you could discover your home has extra seating areas that could become your favorite spot to have a cup of coffee and read a book.

7. Redesign your entire home: you heard us right! Redesign the entire house, not remodel the entire house. How do you redesign  an entire house without spending a dime?

This is how: use your existing furniture, accessories and finishes in a different way.

E.g: that extra chair sitting in the corner of the living room could be used as a nice seat for your bedroom.

That old dresser in the basement or garage could be painted and new accessories added to create a statement sideboard or bar for your dining room. The first step is to look around your home to see what could be used for a better purpose.
