Driving a Tesla

Carol with Mr. T

Have you ever driven a Tesla... the all electric luxury sedan, manufactured by Tesla motors?  As of today, I can say "Yes... yes, I have"!

My friend, Kathy, and I went to Leavenworth, Washington (25 miles west of Wenatchee) today for lunch, wine and some great philosophical, open minded, conversation about politics and religion.   This is dangerous territory for most people, but not for two long-time friends, searching for enlightenment and purpose in life.

After lunch, Kathy offered to let me drive Mr. T  home.   What fun that was.  I tried a few things Kathy hasn't even had the nerve to try yet.   She said she was glad I did because she learned some new things about what her car can do.

This car can drive itself, park itself, decide when to change lanes, and let you know if you are going too fast or if there is danger ahead.  It has many other features Kathy has yet to discover and experience.

I noticed that when I stepped on the acceleration pedal, it is serious about acceleration. You noticed I did not say "gas pedal".  It is all electric. No gas. Anyway,  it will  accelerate at a rate of 0 - 60 in about 6 seconds.  Kathy said she has been to the chiropractor 4 times already as a result of this feature! LOL

On the other hand, when I took my foot off the acceleration pedal, it slowed down immediately.  It's almost as if you have your foot on the brake before your foot is on the brake.   So,when you remove your foot from the acceleration pedal, the car has already slowed down significantly before you ever get your foot on the brake.  What a great safety feature.

The re-charging infrastructure for supporting these cars for long trips is still lacking, but what a great concept in luxury alternative transportation.   I'm already looking forward to the next lunch date with my friend Kathy!

I'll be watching as these cars advance into the future.

Onward...
Carol

Hi Joyce,

If you get an opportunity, definitely do a test drive.  Very fun.

Hi Sally K. & David L. Hanson ,

It didn't scare me but it was fun!  My friend, Kathy, said she bought it because she knew it would "stretch" her comfort zone. LOL   What a fun way to stretch your comfort zone.

Very interesting, Carol.  I am a bit of a control freak, I want the car to do what I want it to do.  But this blog is very intriguing; I may try out one of these Teslas!

Thay are impressive cars, and pretty cool looking. We see lots of them in our area. There is a new SUV coming out, if it hasn't already

Must have been fun - thanks for sharing your drive time!

Carol Williams I love the concept of the Tesla, but just can't bring myself to accept the hefty price tag. Thanks for the report!

Carol, sounds like a great experience, and not sure if I want to drive a car that can drive itself.    BUT, may be better than getting speeding tickets?

Good morning Carol,

Reminds me of my auto days and the Prius; I still feel there will be a vehicle in the near future that will drive cross country and not need fossil fuels or a plug in to keep going.

Make yourself an astonishing day.

I think so too, Raymond E. Camp .  I don't know why we aren't more advanced yet.  We haven't even scratched the surface of utilizing solar power.   Thanks for reading and commenting.

Good morning Carol. I don't even think there is a Tesla dealership in my neck of the woods. Neat post.

Thanks for reading, Sheila Anderson .  Our nearest dealership is in Seattle, 150 miles away.  I would never buy a car without a local dealer... but I guess they have great support and will send a tow truck if needed.

I've never driven one but I think they're gorgeous! I see them quite a bit over here on the West side. I wonder how they do in the snow?

I have sat in one of these. Very nice cars. Have yet to drive one. Notice them around my neighborhood from time to time.  I bet that was fun to drive.

One day!

Hi Steven,  As far as I know this is the only one in town.  We don't have a dealership here.  Closest one is Seattle, 135 miles away.
