I know; you're already back pedalling. Do you have to be a world class athlete ? NO ! Do you have to have extraordinary skills ? NO ! Do you have to do something to make this happen ? Ah haaaa, . . . YES you do ! The next question is, . . . Can you ? Or will you ? And why wouldn't you ?
Have I got your attention yet ? OK, this is going to be fun and you're going to want to participate so I'm asking ALL of my readers, you too; for their assistance in getting the word out to the planet. Are you up for this ?
I want to ask every ActiveRainer, every reader, every client, every person on the earth I've never met before (that'll boost the numbers) to share this information on whatever social media platforms you use so no one can say they did not know that they had the opportunity to set a world record.
As many of you know that read my posts, this year marks the 50th anniversary of Smith Mountain Lake and we are doing all sorts of activities and festivals and special events and on and on and on to celebrate. Well, here's the one ALL of you can actually participate in while having fun.
Get your calendars out and mark the date: AUGUST 6, 2016
Now, you asked if you had to do something to make this happen and I said "YES" so here comes the hard part, . . . you ready ? You have to be here !
Come on, that's not that hard, you can do it. To set a Guinness World Record you have to be present. I don't think there's a classification for being absent. If there was, some of my high school classmates would have set that one years ago. But this is doable and if you can't make it, I'm hoping you will share this with at least one person to be your stand in for the attempt.
OK, don't laugh but there is actually a Guinness World Record for the number of people floating together on a body of water. That's right, it's around 700. Now this doesn't mean on a yacht or cruise ship or, with all due respect; the proud members of the Navy, who I salute. This is talking about just plain ol' folks having a good time on a summer's afternoon.
Can it sound any better than that ? I need everyone's help now so pull out that old inner tube, find your floating noodles and dig out the air mattress because we are all going to be world class athletes for a day. That much fun and world wide recognition to go with it. And you can be a part of it !
Here's the deal; you come to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia for your vacation. Bring the kids (they count too). You visit the restaurants, see the sites and the sights to prepare yourself for your world record challenge.
Drum roll, please. Then, with the world watching; on the first Saturday of August in the year 2016, . . . . you, . . . . yes, . . . . YOU; set a NEW Guinness World Record. Think of your sense of achievement ! Ticker tape parades.
You know I'm having fun with this whole thing but hey, why not join in ? I would really appreciate it if everyone would start now spreading the word because we locals are serious about really making this something special. We are hoping to draw over 2,000 floaters to join us in this endeavor.
Even if you are not directly involved, you can play a part and for that, I THANK YOU in advance for your assistance inviting the planet to join us. If you can't make it, we'll miss you but how often do you get this sort of opportunity to do something so fun and yet so significant. OK, maybe not.
As the event draws closer, I will be sharing more details about the timing of it all and where to meet, etc. The attempt is being sponsored by our local YMCA and promises to be a hoot. So keep your fingers crossed, spread the word and let's do it. That way YOU can answer your friends, family, and colleagues; . . . . . YES ! when someone asks, . . . . .
Have you ever set
a Guinness World Record ?
Well, here's your chance !
