One man's art was once another man's garbage
I'm a fan of detritus art and re-purposing trash into treasure. With the amount of garbage floating around these days perhaps more artists should consider the medium. For some recycled inspiration the Commons Gallery at U.H. is featuring artwork made from foraged detritus, this exhibition coincides with the 4th Annual Hawaiʻi Sustainability in Higher Education Summit.
Participating artists are Bernice Akamine (telephone wire, roadkill, flotsam), Mary Babcock (fishnets, lines), Eli Baxter (bicycle tires), Aaron Padilla (construction waste), Jacqueline Rush Lee (withdrawn books), Anthony Watson (telephone wire) and George Woollard (yard debris)
The exhibition is curated by Gaye Chan, chair, Department of Art + Art History, UHM.
