In working with clients in real estate transactions, in building business, in building just about anything it all takes time. In building a house, from blueprint to walking into the front door with your new keys, it really is all a matter of time.
The funny thing I have observed is about MORE time. Everything just seems to take a whole lot more time than you figured at first. Even what should seem like a straightforward process with contract to close in real estate, it zigs and zags all over the place. Deals can fall apart the very day of closing (at the closing table)!!
Why is this? I think because no one can predict the future and the unexpected twists and turns. Especially when you are dealing with the emotions and the fickleness of people. Even in doing lease deals, people can find "another" rental property for inking the current lease agreement in their hand that they have not signed yet. Why? Because they think it is a better deal.
Time, like energy and our health, is one of life's most precious resources we have. Don't sweat the small stuff, the details that are out of your control.
Life is also about change too. A constant in life is change. Embracing change allows you to know if you don't like the way things are, wait, they'll change.
Life is about seasons. Enjoy your time, make the most of each day, and know what season of your life you are in to not miss any of what life offers.
Time is one of the most precious things in life, expecially a Realtor. We have to remember to enjoy everyday and not waste our precious time on timesuckers. This is one of my many goals for this year - to really be selective with clients and work with only the truly motivated.
Many things are definitely out of our control and it is so important to embrace change. I think change is a good thing and makes life more exciting! Resisting change can make life more difficult.
Gary, you really do write a great blog! I loved this Youtube. Where do you find them? Time is precious and sometimes I feel like it's just slipping by. My kids are going on 12 and 18 and it feels like I blinked and here we are. One day they are little babies and next thing you know, you are looking at colleges.
Gary, if you have time, have some fun pondering the fact of physics that time is subjective and only exists in our perceptions. I think it's what allows our brains to measure phrases of activity, much like in music. It gives us a format to work with. The absolute Truth is that we exist in eternity...And what a fun, memorable music clip! Isn't it interesting how MUSIC can transport one's whole being back to a single moment in time?? Because the psyche (which comes from the Greek word for 'soul') manifests itself in eternity, not time. (i guess i really ought to have something better to do on Friday evening than think this hard! ) cheers! :-)
Gary: I like the entire post, but especially :Life is also about change too. A constant in life is change. Embracing change allows you to know if you don't like the way things are, wait, they'll change. ah..... so true. Good post.
Patricia: Going with change is the way to be. Often when we resist we are afraid, and when we go with it most often things work out anyway.
Susan: It is so true about time fleeting by. Kids grow up in a blink. We must live each day to the fullest we can and forgive ourselves on those days when we don't get it right.
Mara: Yes, time is definitely a human, physical measurement. When we think of the span of eternity then it seems our mortal time will just be a blink of the eye. You are right about music triggering memories and transporting us into the past with what we associated with that music.
Kat: Hang on for the ride. Life never stays in one place!!
Carole: Like the sand going out of the hourglass we just can't get it back. When any of us realizes that then we understand what precious is.
Metranome.......I guess its all about 'tempo'.......and being in synch.......putting one of those on the dashboard or desk might be helpful....maybe thats what i'll ask for ...for mother's day...:-)
Gary - great post about time. I agree with Susan above about her kids (mine are 11 and 17) and we are looking at colleges too. It goes so fast, and you cannot get it back.
Carol: Change is just change. We put the judgment on it. I agree it can be very good for us too, as we get dragged kicking and screaming into the futurre.
Liz: Life does have it's rhythms. Sometimes we find ourselves going too fast and we need to slow down. Metronomes are cool if you play piano.
Sharon: You see that time flies effect with your kids. You probably think, wow, they were just little, and now they are almost grown up. That's why I'm a big believer in taking lots of photos along the way.
Kim: Besides moving by so fast which we all notice, I am constantly amazed, especially in business, how much longer it takes to do everything then I figured at first.
