My wife and I have established some criteria for ourselves and our leadership team.  We know that not every meet person will fit into one of our leadership teams.  We look for creative, risk-taking, teamplayers.

We always ask three questions of every potential leader:

1. Can you to the job?

2. Will you do the job?

3. Do you fit into our team?

The most important quality we identify in a potential leader is character.

Then we look for relational skills.

Then we look for flexibility.

Then we look for internal motivation.

Then we look for ability to learn and understand.

If someone is a creative, risk-taking, team player with those specific qualities that I listed above, we will invite them to be on a leadership team.

Do you have specific qualities that you identify in potential leaders for your leadership team?

4 Comments on Leadership - Creative, Risk-Taking, Team Players

Dan,  Sounds like 3 simple requests for a team member but, I am not sure because someone can do a job, will do a job and fits a team makes him qualified as a leader.  I have seen too many times companies remove there best sales people from the field to let them lead the team without the success he or she had as an individual.  Joe Stumph of By Referral Only has a national coaching service for Realtors and Loan offices and he rarely hires Realtors or Loan officers as coaches.  He prefers using previous teachers to relay the message or lead people to achieve their potential.  Leadership is a unique characterist in itself.

Hi Jimmy,

Those three questions pertain to leadership.  Can you plan, organize, direct, tain, evaluate and discipline?

Then we look at the five other qualities related to potential leader as an influencer.

Thank you for your comments!
