Top 5 Tips for Tails

______________

TIP 1: Plan ahead

Depending on the distance of your move you will probably have to plan several months in advance to successfully move to Honolulu from off island and as much time as you can spare to view the many pet friendly properties.

Before you move to your new residence, get your pet ID’s updated-

  • New collar tags
  • Dog license application

Locate Pet Services near your new home-

Go online and create a list of potential new pet service providers

  • Find a new Veterinarian
  • Find a new Doggie Day Care
  • Find Dog Friendly Recreation

TIP 2: Use experts

Accessing the knowledge of a Real Estate professional that specializes in Pet Friendly Honolulu, O‘ahu Real Estate can save you time and missed opportunity.

Use Pet Friendly Realtors -

  • Sales Agents who specialize in pet friendly Honolulu homes and condos
  • Property Managers who offer pet friendly rentals and collect pet deposits

TIP 3: Make an appointment with your vet

If you are moving to Honolulu from an outer island or from the Continent you will want to consider collecting some items important to the safety and health of your pet.

Your Veterinary visit should procure the following -

  • Certificate of Health
  • Vaccination records
  • Micro-chip implant and or address update
  • Prescription medication
  • Hawai’i quarantine paperwork, if applicable

TIP 4: Read the house rules

Once you find a pet friendly Honolulu condo, make sure to read carefully, the house rules, not all pet friendly condos accept all types of pets. The Home Owner Association house rules will describe what pets are acceptable and what if any vetting is required.

Ensure your pet(s) -

  • Is approved as a resident in the building or complex
  • Meets all the requirements and is vetted if required by the HOA

TIP 5: Get it in writing

Make sure to protect, as best as possible, yourself, your pet, and property from legal recourse by putting everything in writing, in regards to pet tenants.

At the signing table make sure you have the following -

  • Letter of recommendation from previous landlord/Resident Manager
  • Signed copy of lease agreement with a Pet Rental Addendum
  • Pet deposit receipt

what wonderful news that Oahu is so pet friendly - I doubt I will be moving there - but it is good to know that if I ever did I would feel right at home!

Aloha Lise, we love our pets in Honolulu, but finding a suitable pet friendly home can be difficult. If you were planning to move from the Continent, understanding our quarantine laws are one of the first steps to successfully move ones pet to Hawaii. Thanks for commenting!
