You know I love quality clothes. The problem is in my position, and given our weather in this area, wearing a suit to work just isn't practical. Ever showed a home in Central Texas on an August afternoon when it is 98 degrees and 98% humidity? Not a very nice position to be in  when you are in a suit.

Now I firmly believe in dressing acceptably  and comfortably but I refuse to be dripping sweat to appear professional. I feel men should wear a pressed shirt and nice pants. And I feel they should wear nice shoes or attractive boots. Floyn Wickman used to say "Look Sharp."

Most of the bankers I know now don't wear a suit and tie anymore except on certain occasions. I see very few agents doing so either.  What do you feel is appropriate attire for agents?

Have a prosperous week!

My dress is business dress with a twist of comfort.  I think the expectations for what you wear is decreasing and I like that you can go to a meeting and still be comfortable.

I dress to my customer, sometimes shorts or a tie or nice pants and a great shirt.  I was a top salesman in my previous life and I dressed to my customer, golf shirt and shorts.  Rookie of the year and quota buster two years in a row

Back when I was selling in Oklahoma, I now all about hot days! I never went as far as to wearing shorts, but I did wear jeans with dressy tops a lot, along with other nice business apparel. Now in Ohio, it's a toss up, from October to April, all anyone sees is my heavy winter coat!...ha ha. I don't know if this is true or not, but being told that we will be in the 40's again the week of April 28th. Does winter ever go away in Ohio???? - Carla

I'm in austin, not far from CS. It gets pretty hot here. I stick to polos or a button up with my sleeves rolled up.

Trey, I do business casual during the week, but if it is a hot humid day, as we get into summer, a golf shirt and good jeans are acceptable for looking at many houses.

I think you should dress in whatever makes you comfortable as long as you're clean and neat and act professional.  I try to dress more "formal" and in suit for open houses and closings.  I recently went to a closing where the cooperating agent came in a pair of jeans.  My sellers thought that was pretty distasteful.  I heard this great advice from a trainer - that a realtor should dress just one notch above how their client is dresses.  It's suppose to make the client comfortable with you and allow you to still look professional.

We're pretty fortunate in that Alaska is generally pretty laid back.  I gave up wearing a suit to work when I left corporate America.  Now I generally wear slacks and a dress shirt (no tie) or sweater, depending on the weather (today was a sweater day - it snowed).  I've also been known to wear jeans but they're always pressed.

Carla,

This is one of the coolest Aprils I can ever remember in Texas!  Where is global warming?

Christopher ,

I lived and worked in Austin for a while. In August it can get pretty "drippy" ;)

Gary,

I believe that looks better than a sweat stained heavy long sleve dress shirt ....for sure!

Kim,

That is a good way of looking at things.

You only get one chance to make an impression. You should always look nice.

Trey:  I really think you do need to take into account local weather.  A pressed golf shirt, pressed slacks and nice shoes (or boots) would be fine for your area.  My attire has changed dramatically for summer showings here in Virginia.  We have high humidity and high temps.  No where near as high as yours, but it is quite a change when you are comign from a job where you are working in an air conditioned office all day where I used to wear pant or skirt suits constantly.

I also dress differently depending on the client, but "dressy" for me these days is usually a button-down shirt (NEVER with a tie) and khakis or other slacks.  Normally, I wear a polo shirt during warm weather, and sometimes I wear nice jeans, but never shorts.

I am very casual and dress for the client. Would not make a lot of sense to dress up to show and walk large parcels of land.

I dress according to what I will be doing that day and who I will be with.  When I go to closings or a new listing appointment, I usually wear a pair of dress pants and a nicer top.  But when I go to the office to to do paperwork, I wear jeans.  Some clients are actually more comfortable if I'm wearing jeans to show houses because they are usually wearing shorts in the summer. I just go with the flow.
