Lost & Found: Rescued kitten in need of new family.....

pngIt was the night before my famous "tax extension experience." I was running late trying to get all my deduction ducks lined up in a row and was planning on a long night. But I needed to run a couple of errands. There was no food in the house - at least not for people and my car was running on gasoline vapors. I decided to get the gasoline first and I drove into the gas station bleary over all I had done and what was yet to come. As I was pumping my gasoline I noticed a small animal dodging traffic along route 22 in North White Plains. At first I thought it was a skunk - but skunks don't move so quickly and nimbly. Then something rushed under my car for "safety." It was a kitten about 6 months old. I couldn't tell the gender.

One thing was certain, I couldn't leave the poor thing to fate. It had barely escaped crossing the road - if I didn't do anything it would be a goner. But there was one big problem - I'm violently allergic to cats...Yup - me - the pet-friendly Realtor - is allergic to cats in a big, big way. So putting the cat in the car was without a crate was not really an option and the cat didn't want me to touch it. Also, I don't know that much about cats...so what to do. It was 9:30 PM....so I called my friend who owns two cats. Good soul that Krystyna is - she arrived 10 minutes later with a cat carrier. The kitten was nibbling on some dry dog food (premium if you please) and had moved locations to some bushes in the back of gas station. Krystyna was able to get the kitty into the crate. She took the kitten home with her because A)- I would have needed hospitalization and B) - Huskies are notorious for considering cats fair game - and I mean "game" in the literal sense of the word!

The next day I took the mystery kitten to my vet and there he continues to rest comfortably. They are looking for a home for him and I thought I would post this in the hope that someone reasonably local might know of a good placement for him (yes, it's a boy!) My vet told me that once he got over his initial fear of being in a cage, he became a real sweetheart. He has a great disposition and is cute as heck - (he was so dirty the night I found him that I didn't realize how cute he was.) I took these photos yesterday - followed by a dose of benedryl!

Kitty looks a little pissed off in the first picture. LOL  Hopefully you'll find someone to give him a new home.

I imagine the kitty is not happy being in the crate. I DO hope someone will adopt the kitty.  He needs a home and needs love.

Hi Jesse - He seemed OK in the crate - but I would like him to get OUT of the crate ASAP...At least he is better off now than he was before.  Route 22 where I found him is a major road and drivers around here don't take prisoners.

Hi Kay - that's one of the reasons I posted this here. Plenty of  bloggers from NY, CT, and NJ around. Maybe they know someone looking for a pet cat?

Thank you for not leaving that little kitty to fate.  Definitely a good deed.  I hope someone adopts it very soon.

I'm sure he's not exactly happy about being locked up in the crate either.  No doubt he wants out to roam around and explore.  Any word on finding him a home?

I'm sending pics out to all my friends. Sveral are involved with animal rescue.  Even if they don't want the kitten, they may know someone.  Later today I'm going to a couple of pet stores with the pics and some phone numbers.  I have a couple of open houses I want to explore for a client - and they are near some pet grooming places and stores. I'm going to do the print outs now - I may just use the blog and add some "fringe" with the vet's phone number.

I took on three, six month old feral kittens who I had been feeding outside  for a few months.  I was told they would never be social because of their age when I finally brought them into my home.  I'll say this, all of those people were WRONG.  They are all loving, social creatures, and turning into lap cats before we even hit their first birthday.  And these were cats I had to trap to get into my home. The only problem I've really had was getting them to not scratch my carpet.  But a few scratch posts and boxes later, problem solved.

This kitten sounds like a dream for anyone who may be considering it.

Thanks for helping the kitty AND for trying to find it a good home.

Ruthmarie, what a beautiful kitty; thanks for making the difference and rescuing it. We can't have cats either, hubby just swells up going into a house that has cats. I hope you can locate a new home for this little one.

Kitty update:

MY vet is keeping the Kitty and will continue to do so until a home is found. He is in fine health and the receptionist called him "the sweetheart" in the back.  So everyone loves him.  the vet's office has named him "Stanley" for the time being....

Rosario - thanks - I've done an email blitz and posted his picture in several "key" places...

Patrice - It's hard with allergies to do this! But if I hadn't stepped in, the kitten would have gotten hit.

Chris - This kitty is not at all feral, but someone did do something to scare him. He was willing to try and trust, but scared to death.  Now he will go to any one of the techs or the vets willingly and happily.

Tiffany - Still working on it!

Debbie - I think he's adorable. If I didn't have allergies (and huskies) he'd be here right now - not at the vets!  Allergies are SUCH a pain.
