It was the night before my famous "tax extension experience." I was running late trying to get all my deduction ducks lined up in a row and was planning on a long night. But I needed to run a couple of errands. There was no food in the house - at least not for people and my car was running on gasoline vapors. I decided to get the gasoline first and I drove into the gas station bleary over all I had done and what was yet to come. As I was pumping my gasoline I noticed a small animal dodging traffic along route 22 in North White Plains. At first I thought it was a skunk - but skunks don't move so quickly and nimbly. Then something rushed under my car for "safety." It was a kitten about 6 months old. I couldn't tell the gender.
One thing was certain, I couldn't leave the poor thing to fate. It had barely escaped crossing the road - if I didn't do anything it would be a goner. But there was one big problem - I'm violently allergic to cats...Yup - me - the pet-friendly Realtor - is allergic to cats in a big, big way. So putting the cat in the car was without a crate was not really an option and the cat didn't want me to touch it. Also, I don't know that much about cats...so what to do. It was 9:30 PM....so I called my friend who owns two cats. Good soul that Krystyna is - she arrived 10 minutes later with a cat carrier. The kitten was nibbling on some dry dog food (premium if you please) and had moved locations to some bushes in the back of gas station. Krystyna was able to get the kitty into the crate. She took the kitten home with her because A)- I would have needed hospitalization and B) - Huskies are notorious for considering cats fair game - and I mean "game" in the literal sense of the word!
The next day I took the mystery kitten to my vet and there he continues to rest comfortably. They are looking for a home for him and I thought I would post this in the hope that someone reasonably local might know of a good placement for him (yes, it's a boy!) My vet told me that once he got over his initial fear of being in a cage, he became a real sweetheart. He has a great disposition and is cute as heck - (he was so dirty the night I found him that I didn't realize how cute he was.) I took these photos yesterday - followed by a dose of benedryl!

Kitty looks a little pissed off in the first picture. LOL Hopefully you'll find someone to give him a new home.
