With the change of seasons it's important to keep tabs on the humidity inside your home, especially if you are in a home that once flooded.
The last thing you want to do is to promote mold in your home.
Interior living in the North land is unbearable without a humidifier. Shortly after that furnace kicks in the humidity in most Northern homes would drop to about 20% if you did nothing to raise it. At 20% you will have a great deal of static electricity, dry skin problems, and even shrinkage of certain building materials that may lead to cracks in drywall and other materials.
However if you don't turn off that humidifier in a timely fashion you will be promoting mold through out your house and that would be an even more serious health hazard.
I honestly have not been able to get a straight answer for any "expert" on what the ideal indoor humidity level is. If the humidity in my home is over 40% I turn off the humidifier. If the humidity level in my home is 50% or higher I turn on the dehumidifier. That's the rule of thumb that works best for me.
