Looking At People As Associates Not Competition

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Cheese CompetitionThere can be a perception that is not a good one between real estate agents within an office or a town, or between lenders, inspectors, title companies, any professionals in an industry that they are "competition." At one level that may be true in terms of "getting the business." Competing for a listing, offering best price or service showing your credentials and experience but a better way to look at it, these other people are ASSOCIATES. The pie really is big enough for YOU, if you focus on being the BEST YOU. We all can WORK TOGETHER.

If someone is cutthroat and wants to run you over, let them be. YOU be the one that shares knowledge, is helpful, and not snarky.

BE a high integrity worker that serves the client and WORKS WELL WITH OTHERS.

A way to not beat yourself up "with the competition" is if it is meant to be, it will be. Sometimes take a "watch what you wish for" attitude. Sometimes the "business you lose" was not your ideal client. Keep the focus on the polishing up of yourself, there is enough pie (cheese), and the right people will work with you.

Good morning Gary, I just love the photo, did you make them? Recognizing competition is good but doesn't do anything to our business if that's all we focus on. Working together, helping, sharing however is much more powerful.

It is a matter of how cordial another agent may be.  Some do recognize others as associates and others view them as complications to their perceived concept of how a deal should be run.

You are so right my friend.  A kind gesture towards our peers goes a long way.  I love your gang of mice ready to pounce on the cheese.

I'm teaching a class to our newbie agents every Friday. One thing I tell them, stop worrying about the "other agents." There is plenty to go around. There is only one "wonderful" you, and you will attract similar people.

Good morning Gary Woltal,

There is plenty of business for everyone! I've always looked at other agents not as competitors but as in this business working together. Fostering good relationships with other agents is the key to success in this business. If people want to do business with you because you are fair minded, easy to work with ..guess what they like to show your listings and work with you!!

Boy, is this ever TRUE. I look at a new "competitor" and she's taking on properties/owners that I know that I would not want to work with and your perspective is exactly the right frame-of-mind for me to be in when someone is "infiltrating".
