This morning I woke to the sound of a small crowd of teenagers gathered in front of my neighbor’s home. The mini-bus they had arrived in heralded the logo of a local church, so I began to understand the neighbor, an elderly widow, wasn’t going to be in much danger.
Soon after, tools including wire cutters, sledge hammers, shovels, were carried from the bus. This group had arrived to take on the task of removing the chain link fencing that surrounded the front yard.
Recently, the City of Rancho Cordova enacted a Chain Link Fence Buy Back Program, initiated to aid in the beautification of residential neighborhoods within the city. The city compensates $1,000 to the homeowner, for participating in the program. The money can be used to pay for their removal. This group of young people, plus a pair of adult supervisors, had that fence removed within an hour or so.
I was immediately impressed with how much more open and delightful my neighbor’s home and yard appear now. It’s sure to add a measure of value to her home!
