Ballantyne Breakfast Club In Charlotte, NC

The Ballantyne Breakfast Club is having its second meeting of 2016 on Saturday, April 2nd.
The focus of Saturday's meeting will the of the CMS student assignment plans and survey results. This highly charged topic concerning both parents and residents is one I'd encourage every Ballantyne area resident to come to Saturday's Ballantyne Breakfast Club meeting to hear about. District 6 CMS Board Representative, Paul Bailey, will be the featured speaker, but other CMS board representatives are expected to attend, as well.

Matthews Mayor Jim Taylor will also attend the meeting and share the latest information about the recent formation of a task force to evaluate the possibility of creating a suburban school district, a concept that a number of Charlotte region suburban towns are discussing.

To share his insight on this issue NC House Representative for District 103 Bill Brawley will also be attending on Saturday.

Ballantyne Breakfast Club Meeting April 2016

This is the second of six meetings held throughout the year, typically on the first Saturday of February, April, June, August, October, and December. All meetings are open to the public at no cost. The Ballantyne Breakfast Club is now in its 16th succcessful year of providing opportunities for Ballantyne residents to meet and to learn about community events and priorities. Whether you've lived in Ballantyne for years or are a newcomer, the Ballantyne Breakfast Club meetings are a "must go" to stay on top of neighborhood developments. And you don't need to live in Ballantyne to be welcomed to Ballantyne Breakfast Club meetings.

Joan Cox ~ hi Joan...I'll be going as will many other without kids... school assignments impact property value significantly here, so this is an issue any property owner in Charlotte needs to take into account.

John McCormack ~ hi John, any homeowner, not just a parent, needs to attend this meeting as changes in school assignments could impact home values in many neighborhoods if they start busing kids from A+ schools to C schools at the other end of town.

Nina hopefully the meeting will be well attended.  People don't have the right to complain later if they do not make their voices heard.

Very important topic to be discussed at Ballantynne Breakfast Club.  As you stated in your post Nina Hollander all parents and taxpayers need to be involved

Sounds like an important topic for parents, and others in the community, given the impact on the schools. But what's CMS?

Hi Nina Hollander ,  The Ballantyne Breakfast Club Meeting will be a great time to find out about the local area and many changes being discussed.

Good morning Nina.  They are building a new school not far from where I live.  Traffic is bad enough now, it will be unbelievable when construction is finished.  Value of my home has jumped through the roof.  Let them build....

Joe Petrowsky ~ hi Joe... this issue of starting to think about busing kids again is a very hot topic in Charlotte right now.

James Dray ~ the problem here, James, is that they are once again talking about busing kids across town for schools and busing kids in A school neighborhoods to C school neighborhoods... this will have a deleterious effect on property values. I live within less than a mile of three schools and as they stagger start and finish hours, it's not too bad in terms of traffic.

Mary Yonkers ~ hi Mary, you have no idea what a hot, hot topic this issue of school assignments is, especially as what they are really talking about is busing kids across town again.

Ugh, I would attend, too.  Having taught inner city prior to real estate I understand and busing is not the answer.

Happy Easter Nina Hollander

Jeff Dowler CRS ~ hi Jeff... CMS stands for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. I  figured as this was a localism post, most people in the area would get it.

Brian England ~ hi Brian, the communities in Charlotte have been very vociferous in their feedback in their opposition  for a year now... let's just hope the School Board listens to us.

George Souto ~ hi George, right now in Charlotte/Mecklenburg the issue is less people making their voices heard as opposed to the school board, whom we elect, not listening to our opposition to busing kids across town.

Chris Ann Cleland ~ hi Chris Ann... CMS stands for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. It's how we refer to the school system here and I figured as this was a highly localized post, majority of people with interest in the subject would know. Sorry for the confusion.

Makes sense.  I am sure the area does know what CMS stands for, but thanks for filling me in.
