I have to admit that I know very little about roofs. My acrophobia has kept me off of them except for a few unforgettable instances, so my experience has been pretty much limited to picking out replacement shingles, talking to inspectors and insurance companies about hail damage, and writing checks.

But Mary and I are always happy to have experts available who can help when roof issues arise, and we're always interested in learning what we can that might be valuable to our clients and help us sound less like idiots.

Matt Lee and John Anderson of Severe Weather Roofing in Loveland CO recently passed on to us a useful infographic that covers roof basics, and encouraged us to share it with you - feel free to use it with your clients as well, if you wish.

Dick I also know very little about roof, and like you I go on them as little as possible, but one thing I know is that roofs have lots of ventilation the life span is significantly increased.

Thanks for sharing - that's a great infographic. I was surprised by the low # of years for asphalt. It seems it would be worth spending more to get something that lasts longer.

Love it, excellent. I also know very little about roofs. Usually it is not hurting as we are selling condos, and roofs n condos are not part of the unit, but knowledge is knowledge, and this is very helpful.

Great infographics! Where I live, I buy the heaviest asphalt shingle you can afford due to the wind gusts. Depending where you live, lifespans are sometimes just wishful thinking. From 2001 to 2013 I had 3 new architectual asphalt roofs put on due to hail damage. The joys of Nebraska weather!
