Throwback Thursdays: Italian Road Noise

By
Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty of California, Inc. CA DRE #01490977

Some buyers here complain about potential road noise at the homes they are considering. But it doesn't compare to what you might get living in one of these village homes.

This was the main street through the small town in Montagnana where we stayed in the Chianti region of Tuscany. Only a 3-foot sidewalk separated these homes from the Italian drivers whizzing by.

That picture reminds me of the streets we drove on in Switzerland. Pretty close when there are oncoming cars coming at you!

Hi Sharon Tara

Yes, the streets in Europe are rather different than many places here - built for smaller cars, and everything is so old many predate cares anyhow

Well I agree, but it's pretty common in the areas of Italy and France I have toured.

Jeff I loved traveling in Italy roads like that 80-100mph was not unusual... reminds me of people who live on the Ocean Side of the Pacific Coast Highway they do not complain as they dish out $6-$20 million dollars for their homes in Malibu:)) Endre

Good morning Jeff. Very common site in much of Europe, there wasn't any cars around when many of these buildings were created.

When those homes were built, the only worry they would have ad when they came out their doors would have been to avoid a pile of biscuits that a horses may have left on the roadway

Hi Jeff -- so what's a little noise when you have that location that is filled with so much charm?   Everyone knows that real estate involves a little compromise.

There are always trade offs when buying a home it seems. Some things might be worth dealing with

There are lots of charming villages and towns like this in Tuscany - the fun was just stumbling upon them!

That's very true. Some seem to be more willing to compromise than others

I remember staying in an inn in the French Quarter and the bedroom was right on the sidewalk. Not only could we hear cars but people talking all hours of the night. I guess you might get used to it.

Hi Jeff Dowler CRS ,  It looks like it's all downhill too.  Are those lines, "Speed Bump Rumble Strips"?  That would really be noisy!

Funny. I was just showing a home with a lot of road noise today.  It was set back about thirty feet from a 55mph byway.  I wonder what the speed limit on that road is?
