Exciting Activities Coming to Big Canoe in April

With spring in full bloom here in Big Canoe, Georgia there are plenty of activities that will keep residents busy, both outside and inside. Here's a list of upcoming events:

 

April 5th Opening Day of Learning Ladies Golf. This will be a kick off day for all ladies in Big Canoe who would like to learn to golf. From April through September, Ladies are invited to meet on Tuesdays from 11:00 am till 1:00 pm to learn how to play the game of golf. The cost is $20.00 per session. 

 

April 7th  Retirement Income Planning Seminar at 11:45 am in the Clubhouse. The seminar features W. David Hobby, a financial planner with over twenty years of experience.

 

April 8th The Big Canoe Community Volunteer Fair will take place at the Clubhouse from 10:45 am till 12:30 pm. All Big Canoe residents are invited to stop by to see what volunteer opportunities are available both inside the Big Canoe gates as well as in the two surrounding counties of Dawson and Pickens. 

 

April 9th Casino Night Fundraiser at the Clubhouse from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Tickets are $45.00 and will include casino fun, a delicious buffet and music by the Chicken Stand Band. The fund raiser will benefit the Big Canoe fire department to help them purchase a rescue boat. 

 

April 10th "The ABC's of Eating Healthy After 50" will be the topic of the Knowledge Series. Lyn Leo will be the featured speaker for this event which will begin at 4:30 pm at the Mountains Grille at the Clubhouse. A delicious healthy dinner will follow.

 

April 12th The North Georgia Veteran's Meeting will be held at the Clubhouse at 11:30 am. The featured speaker will be George Justicz, a Prague native, who was a rower for Great Britain in the 1960 Olympic games but will be speaking about the effects of Communism and Nazism on the civilian population during World War II. 

 

April 14th The Big Canoe Chapel Women's Guild monthly meeting will feature Jamie Williams, a living kidney donor, who will speak about organ transplants. The meeting will start at 10:00 am in the Broyles Center at Big Canoe Chapel. The Women's Guild is open to women in Big Canoe and the surrounding area.

 

April 15th The Bear Society will host an "Unhappy Happy Hour" at the Black Bear Pub and everyone is welcome to commiserate on Tax Day. On the veranda, Terapin Brewery in Athens, Georgia will sponsor a Tap Tappin party with giveaways and prizes and plenty to drink.

 

April 15th & 16th The Annual Wildflower Bunch Plant Sale from 10:00 am till 4:00 pm will be held at the pavilion at the Wildcat Recreation area. This event features various vendors including area nurseries and crafters of all things outdoors, including bird houses and garden pottery. Ten percent of the proceeds from this sale will go to the Wildflower Bunch Garden Club for projects benefiting Big Canoe.

 

April 21st A Facebook Training Class will be held at 10:00 am as well as 7:00 pm at the Mountains Grille Meeting Room at the Clubhouse.

 

April 23rd and 24th The Big Canoe Photography Club will hold an exhibition of their work from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm at the Big Canoe Clubhouse. 

 

April 27th Community Dinner sponsored by BCAR (Big Canoe Animal Rescue). BCAR provides food, shelter and care to stray dogs and cats found in and around the Big Canoe community. 

 

April 28th Big Canoe Travel Club will meet to discuss some short overnight trips that are being planned for the next year. Trips are being planned to Asheville, North Carolina, Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, SC and Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee. 

 

April 30th  AARP Smart Driver Class will meet in the lower level of the Broyles Center at the Big Canoe Chapel. The course will run from 9:00 am till 4:00 pm. The cost is $15.00 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.

Well Tammy, we belong to the Travel Club and the Bear S ociety.  My husband and I were volunteers of the Big Canoe Fire Department for years and we were one of the original "founders" of Casino Night!  such a fun even that has grown through the years.
