SPRING HAS SPRUNG...some time ago a dear friend introduced me the the "Fly Lady" concept and keeping things in order.  The more stuff we have the more congested our minds and life is.  I am not even sure the fly lady is still around.

Spring is an ideal time to declutter our lives and have new beginnings.  We get wash away those winter blues!

Three-quarters of Americans engage in spring-cleaning.  People who spring clean agree that it helps them save time throughout the year, and many of the people donate or discard items during their spring-cleaning.

Here are the top ten spring-cleaning activities, that can help make your home healthier and safer:

  1. Thoroughly dust your home. Also clean any air conditioning and heating filters, ducts, and vents to minimize pollens and other airborne allergens.
  2. Organize your medicine cabinet. Throw away expired medications and old prescription medicines that you no longer need.
  3. Inventory your garage and basement. Get rid of any old paint, thinners, oils, solvents, stains, and other similar items you no longer need. Note: You may need to take these items to a hazardous waste drop off center.
  4. Inventory under your sinks and around your house. Dispose of old or potentially toxic cleaning products.
  5. Have your chimney professionally cleaned. This will help you lessen the chances of carbon monoxide exposure when the cold weather returns.
  6. Clean all mold and mildew from bathrooms and other damp areas. Use non-toxic cleaning products.
  7. Check your rugs. Make sure that rugs on bare floors have non-skid mats and that older or dusty mats are either washed or replaced.
  8. Inspect outdoor playground equipment. Make sure that all elements are sturdy and safe, especially guardrails, protruding bolts, and other potential sources of injury.
  9. Change your batteries. Do so for both smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
  10. Collect old batteries throughout the house for disposal. Dispose of them in a battery recycling or hazardous waste center.

And make it easy on yourself - take it one room, one cleaning task at a time. You'll be more likely to accomplish more if you tackle each spring-cleaning project separately. And that's great advice...any time of year!

Hello Pam! Thank goodness you do not hail from southern US. It's "Love bug" time! Ugh. Horrible to have an unoccupied listing. Want photos? I have them.

Pam:  This just seems way too organized for me.  Question:  How many of these things on the above list have you already taken care of ?  I did enough for today... I got my flat tire fixed.  Too much driving around in new home neighborhoods with all the nails, I guess.

Karen.....mee too!  had a tack/screw taken out today and after 5 pm today.  We moved into this home 4 years ago in May.  Still have unopened boxes in the garage.  Guess that is what happens when you meld households. ps:  I don't do any of these, we have a house keeper for the bi-weekly stuff.  I am not that organized but it can be my default mode if I get stressed.

Vickie....guess I am a bit lame tonight....are you speaking about my Livermore listing?

Pat, I love Spring cleaning.  Thanks for giving me a couple of ideas I didn't have.

Change your batteries. Do so for both smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.....this is one I didn't even think about but we all should take care of.
