Blogging Has Become my Business Card!

Reblogger Bob Crane

Yes Jerry, this blogging thing is powerful, people mention different things that I "said on the internet" all the time, which can be confusing with over 4000 posts out there so far.

But at least it is getting them to call.

Yes, Blogging has become my business card over the last few years. I remember one of the first things that I did as a new agent was to have a 1000 business cards made with my brokerage and contact information. I was told to pass out at least 10 per day, and go make more when those 1000 were all gone. I passed them out to family, friends, and associates from my previous career at the lab where I had worked for eleven years prior to becoming a real estate agent in 2002.

Jerry Newman Business CardThese business cards were supposed to bring in the leads and help me get found for more business in my new found real estate career. I will always remember something Gary Keller said, “Without any leads you don’t have a business”. Therefore, passing out my business cards at every opportunity became a lead generating source. Yes, I would get phone calls and inquiries from family, friends, and even some referrals from them as they had given my business cards to their friends and associates too. However, since joining Active Rain in 2011, I have discovered that my blogging has become my business card.

Blogging helps to make you more visible to the public. You build relationships, and folks feel like they already know you since they have been reading your posts all over the Internet. You couldn’t ask for a better tool or model to help you build an online presence than when you blog. Your blogs give consumers information about real estate, and local events in their communities, as well as share personal information about who you are. Your blogs will stay online until you take them down, and don’t be surprised when someone calls you about something you had written years earlier.

I am sure many of you in the Rain can share stories of how someone read your blog on a particular subject, and called you for more information, and later became a client. Blogging is a great way to get found and to drive business to your websites too. Blogging may not be for everyone in the real estate industry, but I have made the decision that it’s something that I treasure, and love doing.

When you are passionate about something, you’ll find the time to do it. I sometimes slow down on publishing my posts, but I always come back to the one thing that has become my business card, blogging in the Rain and on other sites.

Great re-blog Bob, I'll go comment on Jerry's but I can't streess enough how important re-blogging great finds is, I would miss a lot of AR content is it wasn't for the re-blog feature or people like Kathy that creates AR highlights each week.
