Anyone?

Yesterday I posted a blog with some questions about "green" properties and I didn't get one response!  Is my writing that boring, or is this such a new topic that there is no one out there that could comment?  Anyone that has experience with "green" houses or clients wanting "green" property - please let me know.  I think it is going to be the norm in the future, as we already have houses with green components.  Eventually they will all have bamboo floors and recycled carpets.  I would appreciate any information on experience with environmentally green houses or where I should turn for a comprehensive resource to learn more.  Thanks.

Green is tricky as there is really no standard of building "green" at this point. You have several partys trying to define it. I have built 7 green homes to date. Everyone wants to build this way when approached but few want to pay the extra 10% it takes to do it. It seems the mighty dollar budget outweighs the echo friendly methods with most clients. Before it will truly take hold the cost of building green has to come down. One reason I now build with Modular components. Its Green by its very nature.

I read your blog.  I am not a "green" specialist yet.  I am hoping to learn more as this is a great marketing niche.

Shannon,

I'm sure it's not you...it probably because you post went over the radar screen......you will see if you find time to blog more often people won't miss your stuff....it happens to many people. No one read mine at the beginning...I would suggest just to keep posting and commenting on other peoples blogs and also you might want to join those groups relating to green because there are a lot of people who take that subject seriously...you could ask Stephanie Musa Edwards or Jane Anne Narin. They have groups for these subjects.

Good morning Sahnnon,

I can't believe that any one would think your post was boring. Maybe they don't have the knowledge necessary to respond. The possibility also exist that the blog went into AR never never land. I have had a number of post that fell away. Depending on the time of day I made the post. If the posting pace is heave we just get pushed down the ladder real fast and go unnoticed.

Part of the problem is that what is green today may not be green tomorrow.  The world we live in keeps changing, some for the better and some not so good.  It is like asking the questions about global warming being caused by humans or is it the natural cycles showing up as we learn more.  Good post and good questions.  Thank you.

GREEN green green you are seeing it everywhere nowadays. A local builder is advertising green. Me and Chip went to check them out. The home is built to green standards but the new subdivision wasnt laid out for green. It has to be North by South placement of the homes axis. So green is really green cloudy!

Most of my clients want energy-efficient windows, such as dual paned. Many people will not even look at the house if it does not have these. With energy costs at ridiculous prices you will see more and more people go green.

Great comments everyone -

Hal - thanks for your kind words.  I am new to blogging and still learning.

Wayne - good point about changing standards.

Laura -  hadn't even thought about the "green" factor outside of the house itself!  Thanks for sharing your experience.

Matthew - yes, I agree that energy costs (and more awareness of the environmental issues and political issues surrounding our resources) will lead more people to insist upon certain features.
