speedometerAs I plunge deeper into the real estate video marketing pool, internet connection speed is becoming more and more important to me.

How fast is YOUR internet connection?

Check out either of these two websites.  They both provide FREE tests....

FREE Internet Speed Test  #1 Edit: you don't need to fill out the info, just choose a server.

FREE Internet Speed Test #2

Out here in Edina, MN my comcast internet cable speed averages 3850 kbps download & 2640 kbps upload.
Comcast advertises a 6Mbps download....so that's our next topic.  Are you getting what's you were sold?

EDIT: According to wikipedia dial-up standard is 56kbps...and the definition of broadband varies from 200kbps to 256kbps to 768kbps
The FCC categorizes broadband in these categories
1) 200kbit/s to 768kbit/s ("first generation data");
2) 768kbit/s to 1.5Mbit/s ("basic broadband")
3) 1.5Mbit/s to 3 Mbit/s
4) 3Mbit/s to 6 Mbit/s
5) 6Mbit/s and above.
Where do you fit?

Thanks, I knew those sites were out there but could never remember them so NOW I have them and will put them some place.

Annie and Bob, Thanks. This is great, but I'm not sure how it's going to improve. According to both tests (slightly different but very close), I don't even have dial-up speed on my dsl upload.

Great information and internet tool.  Our internet is slow here.  I have Bellsouth and ever since the Bellsouth/AT&T buy out it is the worst.

You never get the speed they say you will. But all in all with the help of a new computer and high memory mine is what my husband calls smokin!

Ok, can someone please help me understand this!  I've been riding that same bus with Greg.  The 2 tests are pretty close as far as numbers go my first results were  1596 kbps download and 279 kbps upload.  That last number seems WAY low.  I have bellsouth/att dsl as well, and I have noticed a change since the merger.  Is this something to do with that maybe?  OR is there something that I can do to increase these numbers?  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the resource. What are these tests measured against?

Hi, I just tried to test mine but they are asking for too much personal information.  I do not want them calling or contacting me. So I didn't complete the test.  Do you know if they call?

Kay....you don't need to fill out the info....that's for something else (to check if service exists in your area)....just run the speed test....pick a location to test from....and run the test.

Annie and Bob, I took the test but don't understand what I saw.  I actually had a faster speed from Seattle than Dallas and Atlanta which I am closer to.  Go figure?

Hey Jimmy...what's up with the speed of light?  I thought it was a constant!  I guess I'm not sure how the whole thing works...all I know is that I'm paying too much for too slow a speed!  Take care.

Pretty neat!  My downlaod is much fastaer than my upload via cable broadband.  I mostly do downlaods anyway so that is OK.

thanks for the tools!

I'm definately not getting the speed that was sold to me. I wonder what I need to do to get this addressed? Does anyone have any experience calling the provider to have them look into it?

04/28/2008 01:54 PM by Katie Graham - Denver Real Estate (Preferred Properties)

Annie & Bob - Great post! I just tested, I'm 6600 download, 674 upload is that good? :)
