One hundred and three years ago, the National Association of REALTORS adopted the Code of Ethics. This living document has been modified over the years to incorporate new elements in society, in our industry, in the way we communicate. But like the beginning words, “Under all is the land,” under all of it is an intrinsic focus on several key elements.
Broken into three segments, the code focuses on duties to clients and customers, duties to the Public, and duties to REALTORS. As it delineates those duties, it underscores principles of fairness, competency, integrity, and moral conduct.
The Code beautifully and powerfully impacts not only the lives of REALTORS but of all with whom they interact. It dictates our behavior, charts our professional lives, and defines our industry.
I am proud to say I am a REALTOR. I am proud that the profession I have chosen is one whose code threads its way through my life and the lives of my clients.
If you haven’t read the Code recently, let me start you on your path...
“Under all is the land. Upon its wise utilization and widely allocated ownership depend the survival and growth of free institutions and of our civilization.”
Powerful beginning, right? Let me assure you… it’s worth reading through the whole thing again.
