Beautiful Roses
The rewards that most people think of in real estate are the paychecks we receive when we have a successful closing.  What many who aren't in this profession don't realize is that there are some wonderful PRICELESS rewards we reap.  There are all the wonderful friendships that are made, the great joy of finding that perfect home for people, the sense of pride in helping first-time buyers into their first home that they may have thought to be unattainable, and so much else that just can't be measured in dollars and cents.

I had another of those very special rewards come my way this past week!

I've been working with a wonderful young couple who got engaged while we were looking for their first home.  They are sharp, on the ball, smart, and both have a fabulous sense of humor.  We met at one of my listings that they'd found online and called to see.  I showed them through the house, having fun while doing so, and as the showing ended, they let me know that this just wasn't the house for them.  They then asked what the process was for buying a home, so we chatted for a bit, and then in the middle of me telling them about representation, he said, "We already know we like you, and we want to know if we can work with you".  Just like that, they wanted to know if THEY could work with METhey WANTED to work with me......they told me they knew I would be a big help to them if I would please work with them.  And they said I was "fun".  FUN

I found them a wonderful home and they got it for a great price!  They were so excited about the house, about it becoming their home, their FIRST home.  And I was excited for them!   I love that feeling, it's a feeling that's so hard to explain to those not in our business.  We had a few little struggles early on in the sale - relatives who knew all about real estate, friends who had all kinds of horror stories, etc.  We had one relative in particular who thought all sales people were liars, thieves, and cheats, from his own experiences.  And we are all products of our own experiences - good and bad.

Anyway, closing day arrived, and we closed with HUGE smiles on their faces through the whole closing.  Talk about being on cloud nine - they certainly were, and rightfully so.  I had told them when we first saw this house that if they didn't buy it, I just might, and I meant that.  I came home that night and told my honey all about that house, and he got excited about it because he loves that particular area in Stratham.  But alas, I sold it to these lucky buyers......

As the closing finished up, I put my purse on the table, opened it up to put my glasses back inside, and my buyer slipped a card inside it.  I pulled it out, and said, "Well I can tell there's no food in here"....she's a terrific cook - she owns her own catering business.  Hugs all around and happy faces everywhere!

After I got back to my office, I remembered the card she had stuck inside my purse.  I opened it up, saw restaurant gift certificates and movie theater passes, and then I read what he had written, and my eyes watered up.  These words will stay with me forever, because they spoke so much to me and made me tear up because I knew the feelings with which they had been written to me, TO ME from my buyers, from their heart.

Those words are:
"Ann, Thanks so much for everything and for always looking out for our best interests.  If my dad were still alive, and he were to meet you, I know he would have changed his mind about realtors.  Looking forward to working with youBlue and Black Butterfly again someday."

Sitting perfectly still in my chair, I read those words.  That one sentence touched my heart in a way I can't even begin to describe.  I guess that's what I work for every day, without even knowing it.  I work in the way I would want someone else to work with my own family.......with respect, honor, and with care, all the while making it fun and enjoyable for all involved.

I have re-read this note so many times, over and over - "If my dad were still alive, and he were to meet you, I know he would have changed his mind about realtors."

I will never tire of reading this sentence, and that will inspire me to continue to be the best I can be at any given time and to do the best I can for everyone I work for and with.  I firmly believe in "The Golden Rule", and this special note takes things one notch higher for me.

This PRICELESS gift - this handwritten note - means the world to me, and makes my eyes water again, as I re-read it to write this post.

May we all have many wonderful PRICELESS rewards like this ........

Great post.  It's the reason that we do what we do or at least it should be.

Nice post should be featured. When you're good you're good. Katie in our office receives more gifts from sellers and buyer's than I have ever seen an agent receives. She gets them all the time. Very Very Professional.

She was well trained. :-)

Wow Ann! That was one of the kindest compliments that a client could give... They were lucky to call you and you SHOULD be proud of the kind of person/Realtor that you are. It is situations like these when our goodness is really rewarded. Congratulations!

Thank you for this post.

I had a closing this week and I went home thinking how much I love my job. The couple were really excited about their new home. Their daughter who had been helping me, as the buyers were from out of state was really complementary and thankful for my work. It just makes all the hard work worth while.

Awesome.  Handwritten notes are extra special, like being the line leader in elementary school. Keep up the great work and I hope you get more handwritten notes.

WOW - my goodness!  I put this post up and went back to work, and now I find all these great comments!  This note from my clients was so touching to me, and I'm glad it touched all of you as well.

Judi - thanks for reading and for your comment.

Jay - thank YOU!  I tend to receive a good amount of gifts that get delivered to my office and the other agents in my office tend to tease me about it frequently, but I love them because I know what each of those gifts means.  Good for Katie!  She apparently deserves them, too.

Kay - thank you so much for your comment, and I'm glad my post had that affect on you, too.

Monika - your comment means alot to me, and I feel the same about you and Jay as well!  Thank YOU!!

Desiree - I'm glad you found my post inspirational, and I appreciate you reading it.

To place links, type the word, or words, you want to use, then highlight them.  See how I used the words "handwritten note" at the end of my post?  Once you've highlighted the phrase or work you want to make into a link, go up to the AR toolbar, and you'll see where you can use Bold, Italics, Underline, and then some other icons to the right on that bar.  When you've highlighted your words, the first icon the will show up is the one to insert a link.  Click on that, and then the box will come up where you can then insert the URL for the hyperlink.  Then click on 'insert', and viola, you've just created your link!  Email me if you have more questions, or if these steps aren't clear to you.

Thanks again for reading and commenting!

Ann, it's nice to read about your feelings and those of your clients. I too, share some wonderful times with my clients who for the most part become my friends and some like family. It warms our hearts to know that there are a few out there that think kindly about the word "Realtor." Thanks for sharing.

This was a wonderful story.  The only thing nicer than finding the perfect home for a buyer is when they thank you as nicely as this young couple did. Congrats!

Ann, that is really something.  I am honestly speechless right now.  I have no clue what to say but that I think it is amazing your buyers did that and it says a lot about you as an agent.  It is obvious you do a great job with your clients and truly look out for their best interest.

Still speechless.

Hi Stephanie - many thanks for visiting this post.  When I opened up that card that day, and read what he had written, I was so touched by that simple yet powerful sentence.  I still am, and will always hold that comment in my heart.  I think that's the one thing I've gotten over all these years that will stay with me forever - the meaning of what he wrote is so very special to me.  My eyes watered up all over again as I re-read that sentence above.

Thanks Stephanie!

Wow, Ann - Just like so many others above who have read your story, it really touches my heart.  I am sitting here trying to think of what to say that hasn't been said above, and it just came to me.  I have been a Realtor since 1973.  If I were to move to Portsmouth, NH, I think I would LOVE to have you as My Realtor.  In chorus with all of your clients, customers and friends, I, too, thank you for being the Realtor AND the person you are.  Take care...

Ann,like you I so enjoy those special notes from my clients. This is why I love Real Estate. There's nothing more rewarding than helping Sellers and Home Buyers and those First Time Home Buyers are exceptional. The gratitude and looks in their eyes when you give them their new home is just the best ever. Not sure anything can top that. Congratulations on making a difference and helping to restore what a Realtor is all about!
