Will you be caught without it?

Do you carry your camera with you at all times?

On February 23, I took pictures of an old church, built in 1891, that had a historical marker for a post titled, Rock Prarie Baptist Church building from 1891 "Just a Building? " http://activerain.com/blogsview/392250/Just-a-building.

I seriously considered saving the idea for this particular post for a month or so. In College Station, Texas, February isn't exactly a pretty time of the year. The leaves on the trees have yet to bud and everything is brown. This church had been there for a 117 years. What would a few more weeks matter? Fortunately, I didn't wait.

Roof off, trees cut down

About two weeks later, as I'm driving down the road, from a distance, I realize the church's roof was missing! I drove over there. Historical marker was gone, trees were being cut down, and the building was being prepared to be moved.

Turns out the new owners of the property, Weingarten Realy, took time to find someone that was willing to move the church and March 29th its gone save it from destruction.

One March 28th, the building was moved to it's new home in Navasota. The new owners, who own a construction business, plan to turn it into a one-bedroom house. That chapter in history has come and gone.

Notice, the leave on the trees have budded, but the church building is gone. Fortunately, I took the pictures when I had the chance.

This is a great reminder. I've gotten in the habit of carrying my camera with me, but the last week or so I took it out of my bag because I was tired of lugging it around. It's going back in the bag right now!

Sondra- I have missed some photos because I didn't have my camera or the battery was dead... now I have to remember to carry it and my new flpi video camera! Have you gotten one yet??

I have a camera in my phone. I keep my phone with me always. Althogh it doesn't take the best pictures,it is ok if I get close enought to my target.

I have just such a photo of a church which you can see on my photography site. http://www.venturacountyvistas.com/gallery2.htm. I always have my camera with me. The church burned down just a few months later. I have sold many, many prints of this one.

This has happened to me as well. It is frusterating when you go to take photos, don't have your camera, and end up needing to go back to the location to shoot.

I keep a camera in my car and one in my briefcase. You never know when you need to take photos of an accident.

Just goes to show that nothing is sacred and most everything can be moved or removed.

Gretchen, Thanks for the comment. I agree, lugging it around isn't always fun, but getting great pictures are.

Vickie, I've had the dead battery problem myself more times than I can count. Unfortunately, mine likes to go dead when I'm taking pictures of a listing. I don't have the new flpi video camera yet. I'm still struggling to catch up with simple blogging technology. :)

Shaun, I think the camera phones are handy in back up situations. Which reminds me, I need to get with my carrier and find out why my phone isn't allowing me to share my pictures lately. Thanks for the reminder.

Hi Staci, It seems like sometimes, even when I do have my camera, I find myself going back and taking more pictures sometime....just hoping to catch the light just right or get a better shot. But, it is frustrating having to go back because of dead battery, not having enough shots available, or not having camera. Thanks for the comment.

Steve, you sound super prepared. I hope and pray that I won't need one for a accident. You must have used yours in that type of case, however.

My 5th grade daughter just taught me how to use the camera on my phone!

I usually have my camera with me at all times. Even though its large - a Sony that uses cd's - I still lug it almost every where. I sometimes wish I had a digital that fit into my purse.

Haven't gotten further than knowing which "telephone" to push to answer our cell phone, let alone having to deal with bells and whistles on them. Congrats to all those "technologically advanced" agents out there. To beat the dead battery issue with the digital camera, I started keeping a single use 35mm camera from the convenience store under my front seat a couple of years ago. Haven't had any issues with extreme heat and cold affecting the film, and Wal-Mart develops the photos while I grocery shop. Between my digital and the 35mm, I usually get the candid shots I want as well as those I need for marketing a listisng.

I carry a small panasonic lumix fx07 with me at all times and use it a lot. My big Nikons just sit on the shelf! Cameras are like boats - the smaller they are them more you use them.

Sondra - I only recently started carrying my camera everywhere and I'm grtateful I did! Beautiful pics you find...

Very nice Pics Sondra. I too have my digital camera with me much more than I ever did before getting into real estate (8 years ago)and trying to become much more proficient for my sellers listings at taking good quality shots of internal and external photos to help market listings.

There was a car accident out in front of our office a month or so ago. Besides the guy who caused the accident I was the first one on the scene. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me, otherwise I would have taken a picture of the guy who caused the accident. He hit the lady and as I'm standing there trying to help the woman in the other car, this guy takes off running down the street! Hit and run! I couldn't believe it. Fortunately the lady's airbags deployed and she was ok. I got a new cell phone; now I carry a palm treo with a camera in it.

Great post. I hate when I forget my camera, that is always when you see something you wish you could take a picture of, always! Thanks for sharing you photos. They are wonderful!
