PaltrowPrior to giving out the Oscar movie awards Hollywood parades out their "beautiful people" stars on the red carpet beforehand. It always seemed to me at the very most superficial but really it was all about which star actress had the best designer gown. Who knows how much this designer attire costs? I assume that is not the point. It is just another reason to party.

In the grand scheme of things it is just an event of fun, recognition, and show to have the "beautiful people" on display.

In Real Estate circles we get to people watch all the time. It is like a giant fish bowl of people watching. Other than sitting at the airport or on a bench at your local shopping mall, very few occupations afford you to people watch as well as Real Estate.

You can argue that you can see the worst in people at times when they are stressed about buying or selling a house on a tight deadline like divorce, health reasons or relocation. But if you are an astute observer you will see many "beautiful people" in your midst as well.

How do you recognize them? I can't lay my finger on an exact answer there, but you know them when you see them or when you listen to them.

They may just have that sparkle in their eye. They may relate a story or two about their family or hardships they have gone through in their lives and endured. You may get to talking about arthritis in their knees or the kids latest victory in a soccer game. Load 'em up in the car and oftentimes you will fine the more "normal" beautiful people out there.

Grandparents

They are leading ordinary lives compared to the celebrities we see on TV. But they are no less beautiful. I would contend they are "more" beautiful. You can FEEL the love in their hearts and lives. They keep hope afloat like one of those Ivory soap bars in the bathtub, that is so resilient. You push it down and it pops back up. You can't sink their hope.

One of the reasons I see their beauty is they are content. They are happy where they are at. They are blooming where they are planted. Whereas so much in Hollywood is fake and transient, truly good people that you'll find are genuine. They are straight talkers. There is just something about beautiful people. I think it is their spirit. Catch yourself now and then when you are with the really beautiful people in life. They sure are special.

"People are like stained-glass windows They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within."

I really appreciate your blog.  So many times people buy into the Hollywood/Red Carpet thing and don't realize that the actors/actresses, etc represent a very small percentage of real people who work hard.  Very few of us can afford the clothes they wear or the surgery they do to keep them looking pencil thin and flawless.

Beauty, real beauty can be seen in everyone, surgery or no surgery.  I loved your comment about the twinkle in the eye.  You are right.  Great post.

Gary, when I first started reading this I thought "the most beautiful people are those who are real" but then I got to the line "truly good people that you'll find are genuine." As usual you said it perfectly!

Sean: People watching is a hobby of mine. It is so fascinating.

Suzanne: I think you're on to knowing what true beauty is all about.

Dave: You are a budding psychologist I can tell.

Colleen: Hello stranger. It's great to hear from you. I love being around genuine people. It seems they are getting harder to find each day!

Susan: Thanks,

Fran: If we have the light within, we always shine.

Carol: If we can always focus on the inner beauty we'll see true beauty.

Hi Gary, you see the inside long before you see the outside.  That goes for everybody!!

As always, great post Gary.  I've always said people become more (or less) attractive/beautiful when their personality comes out.

I love watching people, especially when they are just being themselves.  It's the little things they do when they don't think you notice that are the most fun.

Give those people on the Hollywood runway a break too.  Some of them are very nice people, some are not.  They are just doing their job, just like us.  Think of what it would be like to live under an intense microscope every day.

Carole: There are indeed a lot of nice people out there.

Latonia: That's where the real beauty lies.

Patricia: The personality is a key.

Peter: I don't mean to pick on the Hollywood types, because I know it is all about the entertainment, but we see that outward beauty as what beauty is. I think they enjoy the fame while they are in the spotlight though.

In explaining my career in real estate, I always point out that it is not about having an interest in land and houses. It is about caring about people.

I would rather help people who accept where they are in life right now and look for houses they can actually afford than to help someone who is reaching.  I find the people who are willing to be happy with what they can afford and work towards the future much more rewarding than those who "act" like they can afford what they really can't.  I do like observing all types of people though.  Great post.
