Prospecting via the internet with different personality types.

I spend a great deal of time communicating with prospects on the internet. However, it can be difficulty at times to understand the personality of the other side.  Some of my clients are very professional and others are looking for the casual REALTOR to guide them.  What do you do to continue improving your communication via the internet?

I have learned that you can tell alot about a client by their emails.  The professional will have a a professional style email.  The casual users tend to use alot of appreviations and text slang.  Eventhough this is not full-proof it has proven helpful.  Of course once you meet in person you will know for sure the personality type you are dealing with.

It seems to me that most people who contact you via the internet are educated and wanting anonymity.  I think the best approach is not to try and sell them on you immediately.  Answer their questions and provide them with information and let them lead you instead of the other way around.  We have very little control in the internet world so all we can do is respect the fact that they will communicate easier b/c they can retain their privacy but if you want them to take the next step you have to refrain from being a salesman.

Hey,

I would suggest to just be yourself. Communicate to them in a form which is comfortable with you, be upfront, honest and interesting and they will work with you. Good luck.

I have found that internet/email communication can be difficult because you have no face to face interaction.  No body language and you can easily misinterpret the tone of writing.  I always try to follow up with phone call or face to face meeting.
