Everything is Changing!

There must be a better way!  The real estate business is in a transition time I believe.  Going from the old ways to the new ways is always hard.  The computer has taken over the way we do business in every field and real estate is still lagging behind in some areas.

I run into agents every day that are still trying to do things the old way Overworked Businesswoman Taking Care of Pending Paperwork, Talking On a Telephone, and Using a Computerand do things the new way at the same time.  It doesn't work.  You have to get rid of the old before the new will work.  Sometimes, it's a slow transitioning and other times it is a quick cut off and let go of the old.   Change is hard for all of us.   This was me last year.

I am working on upgrading my office toFrustrated Woman Jumping on Her Laptop Computer be more efficient and trying to UNLEARN old ways and embrace the new.  It's hard for an old dog to learn new tricks they say and They are Right.

After just learning one system, I am faced with learning another.  Where does it all end?  It doesn't.  We must keep on learning all the time and never be afraid of change.  One of my favorite sayings I keep by my desk is:  "To improve is to change, to succeed is to change often".   Winston Churchill said this and I read it often and it helps my state of mind when I am a little reluctant to the change that is happening.  Maybe it will help you too.

Do you feel reluctant to change or do you embrace it?

Active Rain has certainly made change a little easier even if I don't get much sleep anymore. :)

Ricki, have you ever read "Who moved my cheese"?  I just read it and your post made me think about it.  At an open house today I put an outline together to write a post about it as there were not any people there.  Now to find the time to put it together on the computer.  I regretted not taking my computer with me.

Hi Marchel,  That's so funny that you would come up with that while sitting at your non-productive open house.  This blog originated in my mind because of my non-productive open house I had yesterday.  I think I can come up with a better use of  my time in the future than giving these open houses my time and money.   Will be looking forward to your blog and I have not read that but I definitely want to. Have a great week! :)

First of all, you are NOT an old dog but you are a lovely lady and second of all...you have kept UP with the times much better than most of the youngin's I see out in world wide web land! You are astute, foresighted and intellegent. You and Don are working "smart" and not hard. I commend you on what you're doing and you're doing it so well! Now, don't get me wrong...I know you work hard but you do work smart too! We know...we listened. Later in the rain~Deb

Hey you Spring Chicken!  You are so cute!  Thank you for your kind words.  I think I will save them and read them over and over again every morning as part of my affirmation time. :)   You should write a book like this.  You are such a positive person and you know how to make people feel good about themselves.  Looking forward to our next meeting. :)

You know..you are so right. I have been through a lot of changes in my 30 years in this business.  But never so many as the last few years or at least it just seems that way. Gosh I thought just learning to use soft paper faxes was a big change. And I remember my dad kicking an IBM mainframe the size of a desk to make it start running one day,,,,,,oh I love change,  And probably the hardest thing I ever had to learn to change was diapers!

And we are fixin to be grandparents so I will put my knowledge to work again!

Congratulations Trey & Kris,     So happy for you!   Experience comes in handy! :)  with diapers and with technology.                  I think you are doing well.  I feel good about what I've learned.  It's just that it keeps on changing and we have to keep up or we will lose our business.        It's more of a challenge for us than for the younger generation but  we can and are doing it!   Have a good one :)

Trey - Love your graphic. Even as an inspector we have to accept change. Everyone knows I have certainly had to learn much about all these fancy tech "thingy" things here on AR. It usually takes me several tries and help from other AR's but it works. Change is good....I accept it even at age 65 plus. We would not be happy if we always stayed the same.

Ricki, you outdid yourself with this one. Change, Change, Change good or bad everyday is a brand new opportunity is what Ceil use to tell her recruiters. It's what you do with Change.

RICKI - I actually enjoy change.  Maybe it's because I see the flaws in current methods and think that there is a better way.  I'm about to embark upon one of the biggest changes that anyone can make on Long Island - BUYER BROKERAGE.  Most buyers around here are treated as customers, but I just took the CBR course, and I'm ready to start treating buyers as clients instead of customers.  I know that it will be a challenge, but it is one that I am very excited about.

Good for you Adam,   Change can be scary but it can also be exhilarating.  If you get in a slump just make some changes and everything is renewed.  So happy to hear about your change to Buyer Brokerage.  That is what we have here, no sub-agency only buyer agency.  I like it.  It was different when it came about but I like it a lot better.  Things are more defined and I think it limits the liability.  Thanks for commenting.  It is good to hear from you!!!! :)
