Lacking presence. You know?

Lacking presence. You know?

While waiting for buyers to show up for a scheduled appointment on a home viewing, another agent's clients were outside the home waiting. As I approached, a volley of questions came at me from three different people standing there.

It went something like this:

  • Is renting allowed?
  • Can we have dogs?
  • Where is the pool?
  • Where is visitor parking?
  • What are the HOA fees?
  • How many bedrooms upstairs?
  • I heard there were some problems with settling in this area, can you tell me anything about that?

I told them their agent can answer their questions as my clients pulled up so we went inside to take a look. He arrived several minutes later and came through the door as we were leaving and asked for the key. I put it back in the e-key box so he could lock up when finished.

Agents: Show up on time. People are depending on you to be the professional and arriving 15 minutes late to a set appointment is inexcusable. Your clients should not be engaging other agents because you lack presence or there may be trouble ahead. You know?

Hello Wanda,  You are so right, agents need to always be early for their clients.  That is whats makes some of us like you a PRO!

Will Hamm, Very seldom am I late for an appointment. If I am, it's because the Car Wash locked my keys in the car while washing it or a flat tire!

Being late is one of my biggest pet peeves!!!  I always arrive early for appointments, and have no patience for people who are late.  It shows total disrespect for the other person...  I especially hate it when agents book appointments for my listing, and then don't show up.. not even a phone call to cancel... and I'm left apologizing to my clients for their bad behaviour..

Gloria, I 100% agree with everything you stated. Being on time shows respect for the people in which you engage in business.

Good morning Wanda,

Unless a medical or mechanical emergency there is no reason to be late.

And make the phone call to let them know.

Make yourself an astonishing day.

Yes, things do happen Raymond E. Camp. After arriving as late as he did, he could have waited with his clients outside rather than barging in during my clients time-line. Not only late but also inconsiderate of others!

I'm going to be honest I used to have a very hard time with punctuality until my late 20's. Josh has helped me tremendously with it. He always says if you're not 5 minutes early then you're late.

Nicole Doty - Gilbert Real Estate Expert, I had a friend that was chronically late, I mean an hour or so later, late. Learned to give her a time well before the expected arrival. Military time on-time is 15 minutes early!

I miss the old days when agents took the buyers in their car to the houses they wanted to see... So much has changed and not all for the better...

Richard and Beth Witt, I still do that for most clients, some like to follow, caravan-style, however!

Nina Hollander,  Of course, to hit home since they approached me, I could have asked if they had signed an agreement and proceeded from there...

Ron and Alexandra Seigel, Setting the expectation up front is so necessary in this industry. I can't imagine showing up late and making someone wait because of poor time management.

Wanda,  That drives me bonkers ... I'd rather be the one sitting and waiting on others (although I do not like it) than to ever have anyone waiting for me. I arrive early ... worse case ... right on time.
