Yesterday I gotta tell ya - IT WAS HOT!! Victor's house has no air and I don't think it had been cleaned (spring cleaned) in over 20 years. The carpet in Victor's bedroom was the same carpet that was there when they built the addition on to their home to accommodate him - 32 years ago!
The channel 4 news was there (to see a clip go to http://www.knbc.com/news/16023070/detail.html ) The Star News showed up and so did the Pasadena Journal. I told the Journalist from the Pasadena Journal that I'm challenging every Realtor in Pasadena and Altadena to do "something" for this family.
I arrived there at 8:00am. Since I'm not very experienced with performing construction labor, I lent a hand (and a few of my muscles) to haul things out to the dumpster and to prepare Victor's room for painting. I finally got my hubby, Chris, to show up and he was the best thing that could have happened to the day (and to the contractor organizing the event). I couldn't believe how fast he banged things out. As I left at 1:00 (to show my buyers some property in La Crescenta) I was amazed at the progress of the day!
So far, I've received some e-mails from people who are willing to donate some funds to help Victor's family. I'll let you know in the coming months how much was raised. There is, however, still time for you to lend some muscle to this project. Rebuilding Together Pasadena will be at Victor's home again on Friday and Saturday, May 2nd and 3rd. Bring your hammers, screwdrivers, gloves and a good attitude. Particle masks and goggles are provided. For more info go to http://www.rtpasadena.org/ You'll receive a free TShirt and a boxed lunch. Remember, all things are temporary in life - and so is this project. It takes place at 3379 N. Glenrose in Altadena - just south of Loma Alta Drive. Won't you consider lending a hand?!
If I weren't on the East Coast... I would definitely help!
