Earth Week 2016 ends with Words of Wisdom and a little bit of Springtree

Ending this years Earth Week with a quote and a story from this day a few years ago.

The great French Marshall Lyautey once asked his gardener to plant a tree. The gardener objected that the tree was slow growing and would not reach maturity for 100 years. The Marshall replied, 'In that case, there is no time to lose; plant it this afternoon!'

    John F. Kennedy

I always enjoy this quote from JFK, and I printed it of years ago, framed it and stuck it up on the wall of my office, not just to get me to go plant more trees but for the other meanings as well.

 stump w foresters shadow

It was a nice spring like day in Northern Wisconsin today and we weren't out planting trees yet but rather we were out measuring stumps for a Trespass Appraisal.

Our clients neighbors decided to forgo the expertise of a Forester and a Surveyor when they clear-cut some timber this past winter and now they get to pay for both along with some of our clients trees for which they will be paying for at double or triple the value.

ice on lake meltign

The dogs and I stopped in Ladysmith for a little break in the afternoon where the ice is starting to melt, a sure sign of Spring.

drake after a gooseDrake was quick to discover the open water near the edge and a flock of Canadian Geese on the other side of the ice.

Luckily for the geese, Drake could not figure out how to climb onto the Ice on the other side so he had to swim back to shore where I was waiting to chastise him and put him back in the truck.fun in the sun

But even though he got into trouble I think that he really enjoyed the opportunity to go swimming in ice water today.

Big mistake...Had that happen to my father-in-law.  The cutter noticed his mistake and made it right...could have not said a thing and my father-in-law may never had noticed

....Experience Isn't Expensive.... It's Priceless!

That was an expensive mistake on your client's neighbors part.

Great post and photos of your trip, Drake is beautiful!

Thanks, Bob I enjoy this light and entertaining post.  That is a favorite quote of mine as well.  As for Drake - perhaps he was interested in becoming part of their flock.

Bob, that seems to me like a bigger fine and more trouble than picking fruit from a neighbors tree.  Tree stumps leave evidence.  Look out neighbors ... cuz here comes the fines! Drake does not seem at all bothered by the ice cold water.
