Who is responsible to clean the dryer vent in a condo?
I could see inside the condo that the dryer vented through the roof.
This is concerning because I have to wonder:
> who is responsible to clean it?
> how often is that done?
> what kind of a cap is on the vent tubing?
At this condo inspection I had the last question answered.
This dryer vent is capped with nothing!
Is this intentional? An oversight?
Did another cap exist one day and got blown off or removed?
I don't know, but I do know that this way of venting a dryer is unacceptable.
Dryers don't do well venting vertically and upward as the condensation can return directly to the unit or its connections. Builders used to know this.
Condensation collects lint. Lint accumulates. Dryer vents clog. Clogged dryer vents are a huge fire hazard! Don't discount the danger of ignoring the dryer vent!
But certainly, an open tube like this is an invitation to other mischief - like birds! And ice!
Tarzan no like.
My recommendation: dryers are important and dangerous, appliances and must be installed properly and cleaned regularly. On condo buildings it is important to find out who is responsible and how that is done. And if you can see where it vents out you should! Seeing that could be the key to future safety and efficient dryer operation!
