One of the best things about this little town is its Hardwood Creek Library, which is minutes from our home! They havemany programs and activities throughout the year. It is always busy!

If you are in a neighborhood, what great things do you do there?

Our neighbors are friendly and willing to help if needed, but are not intrusive. They generally take pride in their propertyand its upkeep. We have limited traffic because 210th is not a thru street which gives us a very quiet neighborhood.

My favorite restaurants around this home are:

There are several good restaurants in the area that are not just for fast food. The Log Cabin which is just up the hill fromus is known for its Broasted chicken. Don Julio's serves as fine a Mexican meal as can be found anywhere. Vannelli's has good steaks and prime rib. Stella's on Hwy 97 is another place with good food. Acqua, which is on the lake so you can boat right to it, is known as a "destination place"...a unique menu, fantastic service, as well as sandwiches, burgers and pizza.

Grocery stores I love to shop at?

Forest Lake has four places to buy groceries: Wal-Mart, Target, Cub Foods, and recently, Aldi. Wal-Mart and Targetpretty well take care of any basic necessities, but White Bear Lake is close for specialty shopping, Stillwater is delightful for browsing for antiques, and North Branch has a small outlet mall. Costco and Sam's Club are not too far away. Maplewood Mall is also relatively close.

Key points about the property that I/we were drawn to?

The sunsets are fantastic. One can actually see the sun "drop" behind the trees in the evening.

Never a day goes by that there is not something of interest going on the lake which we are able to see through the front window or sitting on the deck or patio. We watch water skiing, pontoons passing, wind surfers, paddle-boarders, kayaks, tubing, in winter cross country skiing, and occasionally ice skating. The valley is always beautiful! In the winter when we have a heavy snowfall, the snow covered trees form an arch over the road leading into the valley...awesome! In summer the trees form a shady canopy over the road as you enter the area. Always lovely!

There are many things we enjoy about our home, but the primary thing is its uniqueness...not another house on the lake like it, nor will there ever be. We spend many hours watching the changing lake and seasons through our windows. We can see the stars at night and the full moon as we prepare for bed. To see the moonlight reflected on freshly fallen snow is breathtaking. Wonderful house...wonderful, inviting, welcoming home!

Why people should move to this area; why I/we were attracted?

This particular property is located in what once was called Hidden Valley, now simply referred to by the neighbors and old-timers as "the valley". Our house is located at the east end of Third Lake easily visible and accessible from the lake. Many have commented of having viewed our home, but very few had any idea how to find it...thus the aptly named Hidden Valley.

We have enjoyed the wildlife which ambles through here on occasion...a flock of wild turkeys strutting down the road, a group of four or five deer gingerly strolling down our road or getting early morning drinks from the lake. One summer we had a mama fox and her kits who would sun themselves out in the open. We have witnessed leather-back turtles laying their eggs in a sandy berm. We have seen raccoons, coyotes, chipmunks, but, fortunately, no bears in this neighborhood. Each season we watch for sightings of pelicans and trumpeter swans. We hear the chortling of the loons in the early morning hours and their mournful cry in the evenings. It is always delightful to watch the eagles catch wind currents and gracefully spiral above the house.

Forest Lake does have a small town feel. Our house is located half way between Scandia and Forest Lake. Scandia has Gammelgarden, a Scandinavian activity center...wonderful programs for the whole family and promotes the history of the area. Both Forest Lake and Scandia have farmers' markets and entertainment on the grounds during the summer months. A short distance down the road is the Berry Patch, wonderful for gathering strawberries and blueberries.

What did you do for interests and hobbies near to the property?

Duke participates in skeet and trap shooting at the Forest Lake Gun Club. He is also a member of a gun club inOsceola. There are two nice golf clubs in the area. We also have been active in our church and there are many to choose from.
