Animals of the MLS

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Zion Realty

This week's star of Animals of the MLS reminds me of the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland who is famous for his tune, "I'm late, I'm late for a very important date".  Our furry friend seems to be afraid he's missing out on all the action happening in the house so he's rushing downstairs to join in the fun. Perhaps he heard some scuttling about and thought there was a good old fashioned game of tug-o-war going on without him. Maybe someone accidentally said the word "treat" and he flew down the steps to claim his snack of choice. No matter what activity he perceived as happening this picture captured his frenzied attempt at joining in all the fun.

If he was that intrigued by the agent's presence snapping photos just imaging how excited he was anytime a potential buyer arrived for a showing. Even if our companion was kenneled but allowed to remain in the home for viewings there's little doubt in my mind that his excitement would get the better of him when buyers entered his domicile. I bet he would have greeted visitors with a bevy of barks which could intimidate a potential home shopper. Sellers should do everything they possibly can to make their home a comfortable and inviting atmosphere setting the mood for a positive showing experience even if that means completely removing their pets from the premises.

As for the picture itself, it does absolutely nothing to show a home shopper a selling feature of the home.  It doesn't capture the full scope of the staircase or front entry in which I assume this picture was taken. The living area in the background is too far away to get an accurate depiction of it's size and usefulness or how it's situated in regards to the flow and floor-plan of the home. In my opinion this was a completely unnecessary picture to upload to the MLS.

Nicole Doty - Gilbert Real Estate Expert It is hard to believe an agent would post that photo in the MLS. I believe you though after seeing what Richard Weeks posts!

You have to wonder how agents stay in business when they take useless pics like this and along with exuberant barking this dog could very well jump up on people coming to see his domicile.

Imagine that staircase with a ferret running down it.  I had that experience in a home which had an entry way and stairs that looked remarkably similar to that pictured.  Levi (the ferret), was quite the character too.

That little guy looks like he is afraid he is about to miss the photoshoot. No worries, he made it in the nick of time.

This one just made me laugh. That doggie just just looks like he is sneaking down the steps.

Top of the evening.  I have to agree about this pic Nicole.  Looks like a very nice home and this photo does nothing to show anything off.  Mark

This series you do comes up often when I photographing new listing with pets.  I tell the sellers I don't want to be featured in the internet series Animals of the MLS.

Good morning Nicole Doty - Gilbert Real Estate Expert ,

Excellent series....the photos say it all..not professional or appealing..why would this home be enticing to a buyer?

Hi Nicole - The big fail for me with this picture is that in addition to showing nothing of value concerning the home, we're not even getting a good look at the doggie, which would have been at least some kind of trade-off.

S & N - I find enough to do a weekly post about it.

Sharon - I could definitely see this guy jumping up to greet people.

Myrl - I bet that could freak some buyers out!

Debbie - He was NOT going to miss his opportunity.

Tammy - He's not sure what's going on but he wants in on it.

Mark - Absolutely nothing.

Sheila - Thanks Sheila. I get a kick out of writing it every week.

Chris - Ha! I'm quite positive your photos are of the best quality!

Dorie - I'm sure in a hot market this would not have made a difference but in a buyers market this would have done nothing to entice potential suitors.

Dick - If you're going to capture the pet at least make it worth while! I like you're thinking.

Lou - They can be sneaky!

Nicole, this one made me laugh, the expression on the pups face is priceless. He wasn't going to miss out! I really can't understand why an agent would ever use this photo.

Oh good God, I can't believe it. Again and again, lovely homes with lousy photos. The agent may as well have a disclaimer saying " I don't really care." As for the dog, he's/she's a doll and the only innocent in this fiasco.

Debb - This photo screams unprofessional. I've seen brand new agents take pictures better than this.

The fun never ends!  Sadly, it's a disservice to a seller that these photos make it to the MLS.

Nicole,

I cringe when I show a home and the dog next door barks trust me I have lost sales on that! Some people want to control who lives next door. I tell them even if you have no dog next door at 1st the can buy one or move and someone with a dog can move in!

John - They're getting fewer and farther between but I still find them.

Grant - Maybe I'll suggest a new class at the real estate school I teach at.

Yolanda - It's been a while since I had a buyer that didn't want any pets around them. Some people just don't like animals.
