What a difference a day can make - I woke up about a month and half ago - to something I never expected - I couldn't see the Ocean from house - now I only live a couple of blocks from some of the most colorful, blue waters in the world, and all I could see was GREY Matter out there - no blue ocean - no horizon - just grey skies. I have been in Hawaii for 24 years now and have never seen anything like this. We went camping this weekend down by HOVE (Hawaiian Ocean View Estates) It looked like a massive forest fire, you couldn't even see the sky - at all. Ocean View, and Volcano parks have both Had several evacuations because of air quality issues. Even as I sit here and write this, I keep coughing, I have never been bothered by the VOG before, but this time it has me, cough, itchy dry eyes, irritation of the nose, When is it going to stop?

Reading the news paper accounts of what is going on - they claim that although this is  the worst anyone can remember in recent history - it is relatively small compared to the explosions of 1924.

All this has me wondering what this will do to the real estate market? Frankly it has my wife bothered enough that she has been talking about moving - and she is a local girl, born and raised here.

Just thought I would leave you with a few photos of before and after, these pictures are taken from the exact same place (my home office) - a little over a year apart. The first one is from last year - the second one is from 5 minutes ago.

Wow!  What a difference.  Is this something that will dissipate, or is caused by an excessive amount of "exhaust" (don't know the technical term) from the volcano?

It is just huge amounts of - Sulpher Dioxide - Check the blog again - I am putting in a link to the volcano update center.

Here it is for you.

I live just down the street from you. Can't imagine anybody buying any property on the Kona side for some time. I am going to put my almost completed house up for sale and move to Kauai. Bad home market anyway + vog = bad news, so It's probably too late to sell.

the Politicians are not talking this as serious as they should. They are meeting to see what can be done about the effects of the vog. Quick answer - Nothing.

But what can be looked into is doing something at the volcano source. It may be possible to enlarge the hole so that more lava comes out than gas. Look at the lava flows that are spouting. Not much s02 from them. The geoligists love the new volcano lab, the traditional Hawaiians don't mess with Pele and the Politicians don't have the ability to take action.

I think it's time to bail.
