Take your laptop or tablet to a friend who has never seen your website before. Open your laptop to your website or pull it up on your tablet. In 5 seconds close it or pull it away. Can your friend or trusted client tell you exactly what you do? If not, your website is not doing what it should be doing.
Look at your website. Does it answer the basic question that your client wants to know?
Do you sell real estate or do you sell yourself?
Does my website and/or my services solve my clients problem?
What is my client's problem?
If you're not sure of the answer to any of these questions, it may be time for a redo.
Any buyer or seller can find an agent online. That takes less than 2 seconds (depending on your Internet speed) - So why would they come to you? Because you're first on the search results page? That's probably not the case, at least not for the big key phrases unless you've spent thousands on SEO or been in the game a long time. Most likely your site is overpowered by the big guys, Zillow, Trulia, etc...
So you've got to get the people to your site.
Is your site just an online calling card for people to look up in order to contact you? Chances are, if someone searched for your name, your website would most likely come up. But what about that person that doesn't know they need you?
This is the problem... the client need to buy or sell a house but internally, they need an agent to help them get there. They don't want to just call anyone because they don't know if they can trust the person that paid the most for advertising on the big real estate sites.
They need you. You're trustworthy, educated, ethical and you know you can help them. So how can they find you? Social media? Long-tail keywords? In-depth neighborhood pages? Yes, probably, but what happens when they get to your site? Do they know who you are and what you do in 5 seconds? What about contacting you? Is it easy to call you? Text you? Email you? Find you?
Does Your Site Solve Their Problem?
How can YOU Be their guide to this home buying and selling business? What could be standing in their way from really solving their problem and can you fix that?
You help people buy and sell real estate but you SELL YOURSELF.
You have to clearly communicate your mission -
- Easy to understand tag line
- Call to Action numerous places
- Show happy people that have used you
- Be clear on what you do and how you can help
- Clearly break down services.
If your site cannot do this, you have lost a client. You might have 2000 visitors a month but if you have no leads, there is something wrong. Check it... revise it... work it.... redo it if necessary.
Grab those people and answer their need.
